I've found eating vitamins like they're m&ms works well for rapid gains.

This thread by Uradamus has good info about increasing wellness:

with this post by Vardis providing additional info:

It turns out that there's a 50% penalty to wellness increases from stuff you eat for a period of time after it increases to an integer value. So take two vitamins at 0.5 each to get to 101, and you'd need another 4 vitamins to get to 102 right after that. You still get the full negative effects though. After changing it to +0.1 per vitamin, I needed 10 for the first point, 20 for the second point, and 22 for the third point with some coffee to help wash those down.

Antibiotics actually increase it by 0.25 every 100 real time seconds.
actions="increment(@wellness, 0.25, 100, 0, 0)

That may be a data bug though, since infection decreases it 0.25 every 1 in game hour. The difference is from a "t" missing on the time duration. 100t = 1 in game hour, 100 = 100 seconds. At the standard 1 day = 40 min setting, 1 in game hour is 100 seconds, but if you play with longer days, like I do, you'll get a lot more increase per antibiotic.

Also, the 0.25 increase from the cured buff fortunately does not appear to be affected by the 50% penalty. I changed it to +10 per 10 seconds, and got the full increase each time.

Hopefully you have just hit a time-cap for wellness rather than encountered a bug which is preventing it.

I watched these two guys on a stream (twitch) last night and they just popped twenty antibiotics one after the other till they had full health.

Well, messing around on creative, it takes around 2 full stacks of anti biotics to get full health and Stamina (Wellness) from when you spawn in. I can't speak for any time-cap when playing normally (without creative menu) or when cheating in 2 full stacks, haven't noticed or run into one.

That's not how it works unless it's modified through XML's.

By default, anti-bioitics only give you a buff. That buff lasts for an entire in-game day, and slowly increases your wellness until the buff wears off.

You can edit your xml's so food/medicine gives higher wellness.

and when you are under the influence of antibiotics food/drinks are nerfed to 50% of stated value, and when you hit 150 wellness + antibiotics food/drink is nerfed to 25%, a few inconsistencies when testing this but as a general rule i think its right.

You're right on the money.

Higher your wellness, the harder it is to gain wellness.
