Is Sod better for growing plants then the fertilized land from hoeing?
I was looking through the xml. files and if I'm reading things correctly Sod has a faster growth rate then fertilized soil. Can anyone confirm that its better to use sod to grow plants then using the hoe?

My guess is that the growth rate on sod is for how fast it turns into hard sod. Fertile Dirt -> Fertile Grass -> Grass(?). Sod -> Hard Sod. Each crop has its own growth rate that the game presumably uses, instead of what it's planted in.

As for whether it's better than using the hoe, from what I've read from other people posting here, I don't think things grow in sod. It looks like all the crops that require level 5 would be things you need the hoe for. Corn is set to 0, which probably explains why it apparently grows anywhere.

um since we are on the subject lol. Why can i not grow potatoes? .. did the water the hoe fertal soil and still not growing .. maybe they dont grow in fertal soil?
What I have noticed is that you *can* grow plants anywhere... but they grow *faster* on fertile soil.

I've also noticed that dirt next to water retains its "darker" color longer... suggesting that irrigated dirt requires less tilling (repeat hoeing) to get faster crop spawn.

Anyway I haven't tested this in detail... but something I've been noticing.
i'm not certain but seems to me the hoe thing seems to be bugged either that or i'm doing somthing wrong .. likei said i have the irigation and the fertail soil and i did the hoe BUT the grownd usualy changes visualy after useing the hoe (or am i forgeting somthing) but it is not changeing desing. just curiouse i guess if others are able to get anything to grow besides corn?
We grow everything... corn, blueberries, potoatos, goldenrod, cotten.. no problems. Once hoed, the ground is good for multiple re-plants.

But as mentioned above.. I think re-hoeing, or having the earth next to water.. improves the growth rates.

one more thing: it is better (or even necessary, I did not test) to leave one row betwween the billed one's
so you use hoe on row 1,3,5 and so on
Ok thanks guys, I can confirm now that Sod is not for growing. The Gold Rod I planted on them disappered.

I believe the water things was on an old Alpha build and they got rid of it.

I never tried repeated hoeing. AS for growing faster on fertile soil, does that include trees?
