Dealing with Gore blocks
Right. so we've all had gore blocks and it's all squishy and gross, but I"m ready to get onto brass tacks. building a fort, and defending it. a zombie dies on a spike tip. he decomposes into a gore block. gore block is not preventing other zombies from taking spike damage. this is a big problem . then too, removing the goreblocks, to say...make the defenses fresh...is a problem, since the reach of the tools isn't very good at your feet, to remove the gore.

So, in light of new gore blocks, and i like them, personally, it's amazing. mobs that don't despawn but DECOMPOSE! this is cool stuff! but it's a new logistic thing to deal with, and work around.

How about a young man to clean up the mess - errr you.

: Also with the new patch I'm gonna make a new game where I make my lines of spikes/tips on every other line/block. This way I can creep though my lines and destroy anything I need to with a tool instead of spending all that time 'reloading' my bow.

An axe can reach two or three blocks deep (depending on the angle) and removes gore blocks quite nicely. Defense in depth is good in 7DtD so lay your spikes out with more depth by using one travel path to 3- 5 spike lines.
I don't know what to think about "gore block", in the background it's a good idea but poorly exploited. There are already been not many different traps but now they are useless or need constant maintenance to keep it efficient and I don't want to pass my time to play at visceral cleanup...
my hopes for gore blocks

-- smaller.. looks so big it's comical.. maybe 1/4 height? and 2 wide? like the bodies seem to be

-- make the first couple applications of gore be an "upgrade" to blocks, but not a beneficial one. This way you can start to coat the normal block with a gore effect and it only stacks above it after it's fullly coated (ie: space between log spikes fills in before gore stacks above them)

-- would like it if you can't remove it by shooting -- if the first few applications of gore were a block "upgrade" you'd be damaging your own block. would like it so you have to remove with repair tool (like prying gross-ness out of the cracks and scraping it off the flat surfaces)

I've been finding my stone axe doesn't destroy gore blocks easily, or in some cases, not at all.

As a side, would be a nice feature to add a chance of infection if you melee them - esp if your health isn't currently 100%. After all, they were zombies once.

It would be cool if there was some sort of slave bot we can create to automate the cleaning task.

maybe have it so when it is not cleaning it goes and picks cotten for you. Sort of liike the Stone Gohlem in Minecraft.

oh, jeeze that'd be pretty kick ass, but instead of a golem, how bout just..."a survivor, like a young woman, just...some random person you rescue, and they agree to live in your settlement, and do basic tasks for you, like a follower in bethesda games, with simple dialogue options. that'd be kick ass!

Yeah! NPC's that you can capture and command would totally rock!
I have an easy way to deal with the gore blocks:

Wait half a game day, and they despawn.

Slave janitor would be much more fun :D

Thanks for the tip :) I never noticed this before. As soon as i see muck on my spikes, my OCD makes me immediately want to clean it off.

I know, right? Then I had a really big horde come through, and after that I was too busy repairing things... when I went to clear the spikes, I saw the gore blocks despawning.
So here's my latest base defense design. With the Metal plating on my wall under the trussing it prevents the gore block from spawning on top of the spike next to my wall, as the block space is already occupied by the plating.. So my inner row of spikes is always doing damage.

Very, VERY similar (almost identical) to what I'm using as early-game base defense. Until I get to re-build the Blender. My difference is that I leave 3 blocks in the front and rear walls open so I can melee/shoot as I want to clear them fast. I don't always want to have to burn ammo to clear a horde.
very cool Dragorin.

Looks almost like my stong hold.

Do the zombies that spit vomit ever break the steel walkway you made? They seem to disolve Concrete in 3 or 4 shots.

Here is a cool tip... Make the entrance to your building from the building next to it, and make a 100% airtight walkway.

That way when you enter or exit the building next to your fortress, the zombies get attracted there.

I need to make a better walkway. I am going to try that steel stuff you used.

Yes the cops can break the trussing but it's rare that they do as I continually make a circle around my base during an attack so the zeds never sit in one spot.. if you let them do that they will bread the spikes and the wall rather rapidly. I like the trussing because I can shot guns through it and break any gore blocks that currently spawn above the outer row of spikes.

I have other ideas on base defense to enhance what I already have in place. The building next to me is going to be taken down and I'm going to use the block to totally fill in the first floor of my base. It's 3 stories I don't need the first floor for living space. I'm also going to put another wall next to my current spikes with plating on both sides. That should create an inner tunnel of spikes that won't let gore blocks spawn at all. But my only concern is it may be difficult to repair after a 7 day horde. Normal hordes aren't an issue but cops and ferals really do a number on spikes now.

I like the entrance to my base. It works really well and the zeds don't ever really bother it. The only ones that do are the spiders but they are dumb and climb the side with the spikes and die. lol
I just modded my game so the gore blocks no longer despawn (turn into air blocks according to the code) now they turn into dirt blocks.

This makes me really have to do something about them, instead of just waiting for them to go away :) it's kind of cool building up the land.
I use the same design from a10:

most of the base is underground..

gore blocks never reach me when standing on the overhead iron bars, it seems eventually zeds stop taking dmg, and by moving myself to the edge of a gore block, I can cause a zombie to attack it and clear it for me.
