Lost backpack
I died in a cave by avalance. Anyways, my backpack is no where to be found, no green icon. Is this a bug?

No your backpack was destroyed by all the stuff falling ontop of it when you died.

I died from a feral zombie in a cave and my back pack vanished as well

I died in a cave too (while digging) and my backpack disappeared, but since I died under tons of gravel I thought it was actually destroyed by the cave-in. But now that you tell me this I'm thinking it may actually be a bug.

sometimes it will spawn above ground. directly above where you died. and somtimes it will just be destroyed. be extra careful when mining. Rule of thumb: don't mine above you...

Just died inside a cave due to fall damage. Didn't get a backpack icon and no backpack at the location where I died.

If it doesn't show up on your compass, it's destroyed and you lost everything in it to the abyss usually.

I died while trying to jump up a small slope inside a cave, backpack poofed - it was not on the surface either. So it's not just cave-ins that destroy the backpack, and that is a bug.

A backpack gets easily destroyed, 1 smack of a zombie can be enough, if it falls 1 block... poof.
Not sure if you can call it a bug as maybe intended by the devs (either way annoying lol).

There are times that the game gets.... confused due to the smooth terrain system, as to where it should drop your pack. At times (especially with the jaggedness of caves) the game spawns your pack in a place that you could stand on, but isn't a solid block. Thusly, the pack falls and breaks. Best rule of thumb is that you should never carry your best stuff when mining, but even more so is to keep a chest handy to dump your ores into every so often (like when trying to regain stamina or repairing the tool). This way you have a chestfull of your stuff and are much less likely to lose it if you die.

My buddy 'n I generally collapse ore now. We use stone enough to need lots so we outline the ore deposit by hacking out the stone, and since ore now drops over disappears when you collapse it, we get all the ore at once. This however, is a dangerous thing as we are collapsing a massive amount of ore at once (often 3+ stacks worth). Therefore we use the chest idea to preserve everything but the tool (even with an auger we use the pick at the end). This way we lose nothing but a tool and wellness from the death. I also suggest a sleeping bag, in case you can't get to the ore before it disappears.

Essentially the point is that you need to have as little in your pack as is possible when mining to minimize losses from deaths, which will happen.

Munchermanjz, did you just say that collapsed ore don't disappear anymore?? O_O

Please confirm, since I'm still mining one ore at a time to avoid destroying precious ore by collapsing...

lost my backpack in a cave too - completely gone, no icon - died when ONE gravel fell on me - instant death - not happy as I had 130 health points and iron armour - felt a bit like the sudden death from the killer saplings.
