Looks gorgeous
Dislikes:
I'm having some issues with the way the fighting system is working.
I like:
1) The new graphics, even in my potato looks more nice.
2) The new quality system for the crafted items. It's awesome.
3) The bow. It's really neat.
4) Not having to craft grass fibers.
I dislike:
1) The new spawning of zombies. I can clear a perimeter and when I turn, there's a dozen of zombies going straight to me. There's no rest, they keep coming forever.
2) Hitting with melee weapons now feel weird. In the previous vesion felt like you're hitting something. Now hitting something or the air felt the same.
A very minor annoyance for me has always been that BONES are useless. Now we can make crossbow bolts and arrows out of them. THANK YOU
Find the book called "Forge Ahead".
1. Graphics are a big step forward.
2. Quality system and crafting system are winners.
3. Feral zombie. One scary mofo.
4. Movement while running seems more fluid, running jumps seem to go farther.
5. CAVES. 'nuff said
6. Terrain generation is better.
Minuses:
1. Vertical jumps are odd sometimes, ladder climbing is weird too.
2. Movement next to objects seems to snag the character sometimes (hard to describe this one).
3. Water movement, big step back. Doesn't feel right.
Pluses win.
Go Pimps
There does seem to be way fewer buildings which I dont like and Viewing distance seems nerfed. I can't see planes anymore even though I have max viewing distance set (Play on a 780ti) so shouldn't have an issue seeing things at a distance.
Big Minus:
1. My old level data has a lot of errors and quirks with the new engine, when i entered one of my buildings the console popped up, showing many error messages continuallyy and this console could no more be closed. I had to kill the game in the task manager.
So because my old maps where unplayable i needed to start a new game.
So all the progress i made, my fortess i built etc. isn't usable anymore.
I know it is an early access game, but other games like Minecraft were that too and they don't had this problem. There should be a way to convert old savegames to newer versions.
2. Shooting with the crossbow makes so much noise, like shooting with a gun. This is the major reason, why the whole town is attracted and every zombie in town is chasing you. I also testet that in cheat mode, because this allowed flying and then you can easily see from above, how shooting just one arrow with the crossbow attracts every Zombie in town. It is like exploding TNT.
It's no more possible to kill them with the crossbow quietly, and this is one of the major gameplay showstoppers.
3. The requirement to find gun parts for every gun, instead of being able to mold everything in the forge like it was before.
4. No aiming cross, through you can sneak, then you have one, but this is not the same.
5. Cutting trees takes too long now. I can't afford the time to spend so much time in a game just for gathering just a couple of the same basic resources. The developers should consider, that there are people who also have a job in real life. I really don't want to spend all my short free playing time only for tree farming.
Small Minus:
1. It's no more required to sharp the small stones or make grass fibers. I liked that and it was more realistic than the way it is now. Collecting stones and feathers forced the player to leave your fortress.
2. Wasn't impressed by the engine update. I don't have the feeling that the performance is better. But i am running it at low quality mode on an E6550 Dual Core@2,33 GHz with Geforce GTX 550. And while doing so, the trees look now worse than before with that low quality settings.
3. Caves. I don't like caves and in real world caves are rare, so it is also unrealistic.
If i want have caves i play Minecraft. In a zombie game, there are other more important things.
4. Improving a hatch to level 3 (with metal) is still rather useless, because the metal can only hold 2-3 hits and level 3 protection is gone. This should have been fixed in my opinion in the new version.
Plus:
1. The bow as a new weapon.
2. Tools and weapons have different quality levels. I like that idea. But the stone axe should definitly be more durable, even in the beginning. When i cut only 3 trees, it gets already broken, this is definitely too annoying. It should sustain at least 20 trees.
3. Torches can now be stacked and they don't turn out. This is a good thing.
4. More arrows when creating one.
5. The new zombies.
6. The new additional buildings.
7. Better terrain generation.
From a playability and game balancing point of view, the last version was in my opinion much better.
While this new version introduced new features, they are rather unbalanced and good things were changed in a worse state thus making the game less fun to play.
I am disappointed by the new version and i hope they will fix this in one of the next releases.
It is also sad, that it is not possible to downgrade to the older version.
No Red Dot is nice, not having a dot feels more real
Cave angles I have not had that problem with them
Fewer birds nest I think thay balenced it right
They still havn't fixed the creepy player models.
