Stone Axe Tip
Since the stone axe does not last very long when you first start out I just dealt with it. Try making 3 axe's at a time & carry extra stones. Wear the axe down to right before it breaks then switch to another one in your toolbelt repeat & use the third one. Then reair all axe's & repeat.

When you are able to forge ahead you will find that the fire axe or other tools degrades faster too so you are going to have to carry ingots, forging iron or pipes to make metal strips to repair your tools. It is easier to carry the ingots to keep your inventory low.

Good tip. Something from me as well: keep making stone axes - break the one that already has wear by using it up, then drop the next lowest quality one into the hotbar, use it up, etc.

Keep the highest quality one in the hotbar slot next to the one you use, so you always have a halfway decent melee weapon ready to switch to, instead of a cheap and mostly-broken used axe.

or you can use all your stone axes down till their almost broken and burn the ones that are too crappy to repair. burning old tools is great. repairing doesnt really pay off except for iron tools and crossbow.

since the new updates leveling up became much more important , the stone ax start to become good at chopping wood and breaking stone only after you've reached at least level 5-6.

I craft new tools when I level up and they're usually just good enough that I get rid of the older one , I've even was able to mine a few Iron with a stone axe which had it's quality around 130 ... it's long but then it's cost only 1 stone to repair In order to mine each Iron block which is a good start if you have a forge but still don't have the pickaxe.

the game is not really harder but it's start much slower then before.

Or just try killing some zombies? Cutting few trees? level up?

Usually, first thing after I craft a stone axe, I gather 7 sticks and craft a wooden club for melee use, the stone axe is merely a tool for gathering resources in my view....

It only take one small stone to repair now

If you find purple quailty of any items - repair them.

Weapon parts are very important to find - especially high-quality stocks (purple). You *WILL NOT MAKE THESE* for a very, very, very long time.

If you find sub-par guns and have spare parts, check disassembly of the gun to see what quality parts it is made out of - each part of that gun tends to have a different quality.

When crafting metal weapon parts, keep re-feeding the parts into the forge until you get the best quality. It's random so you can get top-quality metal parts simply be feeding the barrels/receivers, etc. back into the forge. (gives you something to do ALL NIGHT LONG)

You cannot repair damaged parts of weapons you find but once assembled, you can repair the weapon.

This is how you can end up with top-end gear fairly early on. Just get the parts, assemble one then keep the thing fixed.

Make a bunch and look at the quality/durabilty then just use that one with the highest durabilty last and repair it when it wears down.

Some have quality of 1 and some will be 50's or higher...huge difference.

I found I levelled up at level 8 and started making higher quality items. Also I found purple magnum parts.. going to have to take notice of the quality a little closer. Almost at end of my first day and I found a small town (2 houses, 5 garages / shacks) in a plains biome, but no forge ahead book as yet.
