Can't you also place an egg in a can of water and boil it?
The best places to find a cooking pot if you can't make one due to a lack of a forge is to search ovens, cabinets and fridges in houses. Also look at abandoned campsites in containers and around the campfires on the ground as sometimes they're sitting there. You can also, I don't know why, sometimes find them in bathrooms of stores in cabinets and sinks. Hope this helps Boresight.
Also when I say you need a cooking pot I mean you have to "EQUIP" the cooking pot on the topright of the campfire where you can place a Cooking Pot, Grill and a Beaker. That's where you "EQUIP" your items for your campfire to use.
You can't just have it in your inventory so make sure you put it there to boil the jars of murky water. Otherwise boil water in tin cans. :D
You don't need to 'place' the ingredients anywhere. You just select the recipe from the list, then the number of items you wish to cook and it'll suck up the required items, once you hit 'cook' (you need atleast one fuel item for the cooking to start).
To cook BOTTLES of murky water, you need a cooking pot and place that into the appropriate slot (the one with a picture of a cooking pot on it). Of course, add fuel as needed (to the fuel slot).
It REALLY isn't rocket science.
Nope.
Good luck =)
