Blunderbuss MASSIVELY overpowered
Ive been looking forward to the new patch, and in particular the new weapons, the wooden bow and the blunderbuss. However i have to question the logic behind the blunderbuss.
It requires 2 iron pipes and 1 wooden plank to craft, making it by far the easiest weapon to craft in the game. Then comes the ammo, extremely easy to craft with the only mildly hard to find thing being gun powder. In the end, the real problem.

This weapon has WAY TOO MUCH block damage.

One shot destroys a tree.

One shot breaks a rock.

One shot destroys stone.

One shot takes down a door.

While i find the idea of a strong and powerful one shot weapon to be great, this is way too much.

I mean, why even bother finding a chainsaw with fuel etc. when you can just get the easy to craft 1 shot tree feller blunderbuss? I think the block damage of the gun needs serious rethinking. I dont mind the fact that you can blast down a door with it, but that it is more effective for most gathering, than the tool intended for the same just doesnt seem right.

Thanks for reading, hope this will be considered.

because it has zero accuracy...worse than a shotgun. Stand point blank from a zed and you still have a 50% chance to miss. You are better off flailing a stone axe or bone shiv around.
... ... ...however, it has become my "breaching" tool of choice. Gets you through any door/wall in less than one second.

I found the blunderbuss useless but I'll admit I never even tried using it for block destruction. I was frustrated with it's inability to dispose of zombies properly. I can one shot zombies from good range with the bow all while maintaining stealth and at a very low ammo cost. Even up close I prefer the bow and arrow to the blunderbuss. I feel they should absolutely be compared to each other since they're entry level weapons.

I feel with all the pros with the bow being that it's cheap to craft (cheaper than blunder) and it's ammo is also much cheaper to craft and it's silent and more accurate, that the blunderbuss should be buffed to make it more of an option.

At the very least I feel like if I am point blank range the zombie should be obliterated by the blunderbuss and be guaranteed or close to it 1 shot kill. That will be balanced by its very slow loading time.

I went and made my own cave with it after I blew away every block in one shot. Aside from frames, which it has 0 effect on. So super OP on blocks, but I found the opposite with Zed 's, point blank in the face and they weer still coming. Defo some rebalancing needing to be done on the blunderbuss.

Well, I didnt try shooting any trees or walls with mine, but my experience was that it was VERY weak against zeds. Three shots to the head to kill one normal zed using the stone ammo, and very long reload times. So overall I'd say it was very weak. BTW you can break boulders to rubble with the bow. Both need some tweaks, but I'm sure they'll get it.

Considering how noisy the gun is in-game, it doesn't seem to attract nearby zombies when you shoot it.

Hunted a pig with a blunderbuss earlier. 6 shots and half a mile later finally bagged it. First shot was point blank into the back of it's skull. Could use more entity damage, less block damage. I didn't try clearing out a mountain with it though. In terms of destructive power, a blunderbuss should do more than a bow or homemade crossbow... to more things than the wall that was behind the zombie I shot at.

I threw mine away when couldn't even kill a stupid dog with it. I'm rather have a club then that useless gun.

please mind, im not posting about the blunderbuss ability to kill zombies (which is horrible), im talking about its massive potential in block destruction. Most of all the ability to shoot a tree to bits with 1 shot makes it far better than any other tool for tree farming, maybe even better than the chainsaw in terms of cost, since blunderbuss and blunderbuss ammo is extremely cheap to craft.

I agree the accuracy of the weapon should be increased a lot, since its close to useless vs. zombies (which might be the intention of the devs because of its low cost), but the block damage is simply way too high.

I wouldnt mind if it had a sort of damage bonus against doors, for use as a breaching weapon, but the general block damage that allows destroying a rock, tree or wall in one shot is definently not right.

I hit a zed point blank in the chest with it and it didnt go down.
Plus it makes a racket and calls down a horde. Or, it did in my game.

Can't wait for the PvP'ers to figure it out and start using it to raid other peoples bases...even with +400% block strength, 3 guys could blow through a reinforced concrete wall in one shot each.

exactly Jedia, its as if people dont see that a weapon doesnt need to kill zombies to be strong, if it can be used for other purposes such as that in extremely effective manner.
MaBucket Apr 5, 2015 @ 10:04am
Kind of absurd that people think that one-shotting the blocks mentioned is a-ok because it sucks vs. Zeds. I haven't played much since A11 but if you're right then that's way too strong.

I hope they reduce this drastically. Guns should never be more viable for block destruction than late-game tools.

This is why we can't have nice stuff people will complain about everything known to man.

Complain it's too hot, too cold, too strong, too weak, too tall, too short can't people be happy with what they have?

A blunderbuss is almost like a cannon shotgun of course it going to be strong your ramming raw gunpowder down the barrel crudely and putting shot in it made from whatever. A real life one can proboly blast a large hole right through a real life wooden door.

There's a thing called balance. Crook posted in a measured way pointing out something which may have been overlooked. I don't see what's wrong with that, just a debate.

I agree it isn't made for knocking down trees and blasting down doors but i'm sure it can do some damage to doors and stuff depending what powder you use and shot you use and the size of the blunderbuss in realistic terms. For the gameplay terms it's how the pimps want it set at. Just have fun with it cause it's there for your enjoyment if it blasts a house down then have fun blowing up cardboard houses.
