Resuming Games?
My housemate and I were having a game of this the other night, he was hosting and I was connected over the LAN. It was all fine for three hours or so (times flies in this game), but after a while he suffered a crash to desktop, and when he tried relaunch the game and load up the save file, the game dumped him into a fresh world on Day 1 with all the progress lost. Does the game have to quit naturally to save progress? I would've expected regular autosave saves a la Minecraft. :S (Same thing happened to me when I tried to launch the game from my PC, but I was never host so I'm not sure how it's supposed to behave in that case...)

But yeah, pretty annoying. Any suggestions to prevent this from happening in the future?

Well the good thing is this game is highly replayable. The game backups in the background so if it crashes only a few seconds is lost maybe 10 to 20 seconds. Perhap[s he loaded the wrong save?

He may have a hard drive issue. Get a hard drive utility and run it to test for errors on the drive.

ps your avatar is the most FURosious bear I ever saw! :P

Nah it was definitely the right save (only one we had timestamped at 3 in the morning. :) - the annoying thing was upon loading and it dumping us at the beginning, it then autosaved over the top again when exiting...so if it was ever salvageable it definitely wasn't after loading it. Just worried a similar thing will happen next time we play.

Also say you join a multiplayer game, then exit and come back later, go to continue game, and the game you played earlier is there...how does that work? Does it try to reconnect to the server when you join or does it load a single player version of the map as it was last seen? Because I tried to load the multiplayer map we were playing on my machine and it was also Day 1 zero progress....which seems strange if it was down to a HDD issue or something purely on the host's end.

There's not a setting in the options that stops saving or something is there? :S

If your friend was hosting and you leave you need to connect to his server again. Not the local save on your machine. The local save on your machine will start again as Day1.

You may have just had a glitch in you friends machine. Maybe play for 20 minutes, then you both quit. Have you buddy start the game and invite you through steam. Hopefully the glith wopnt happen again.

No options to stop saving, otther than delete save when you restart and chose continue game.

Good luck! Live long and dont becomre steaming zombie dooo!

Fair enough, will put it down to it being just one of those things then - thanks. :)

You are welcome.

You can Alt tab out once in a while and copy/paste your save. It should be in your documents folder under 7dtd(Highlight your save and hit Control C and then control V and you make a quick copy). Thats one way to at least have a backup if it does it again. Whoever is hosting will have the save. I always run a dedicated server when playing by myself but either way doesn't matter. Backup that save once in a while and you should be good. That way you have something to fall back onto no matter what.

Good advice. I may have to try next time I host, just in case.
