Is it possible to drain a lake?
Lets say I dig a big ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ under the lake and make a hole from the bottom of it into my "cave". Will the water flow down or will it just expand and stay att the same level at the shores?

Have you tried it? haha xD

You'll get a waterfall into your cave, but the lake won't drain. You can clear the water from a lake by filling it with wood frames. Start with rows across the end, and once you have a few, reuse frames from the dry side to block the next row of water.

Water in 7D2D works the same as water in Minecraft. It will flow out from a "source" block, but that source block will never drain away. There are some Minecraft mods that allow for realistically volumetric water, but it's not built in. So theoretically it can be done, but I doubt it's high on their list at the moment. :D

you can drain a lake but it is very time consuming.
like Dejah Rose said...you use wood frames.
place frames on 1 side like a wall and work your way to the other side. you can remove the frames behind the wall as you go as long as you dont remove the frames that are in contact with water.

You can't drain a lake by digging a big basin under the lake and then drilling up thru the bottom of the lake, it will just flood your basin but not fill it to the ceiling.

Basically the water physics in the game are wonky, early access state right now.

I can make a lake out of a bucket of water, it takes time but is possible. Also you have to fill in the lake to remove it, digging under it will just create more water.

Try this. put water in a bucket then pour it out on the road. Will answer your question.

In a weird way i like the wonky water.

Water follows it's own rules, you're not its mother and you can't tell it what to do!

It would be nice if, when they add weather in, they do something with the way water works. That way you'd have to be careful about how you set up your mines, or your bases, because you could flood your mines, zombies busted a hole in your roof while you were offline and now your base got flooded, etc. You'd need to have some sort of drainage dug, maybe with iron rebar grates over the drainholes to prevent zombies from getting in.

That and underground water sources. You're in a desert, if you dig deep enough you could find an aquifer. Or when you're digging, you might accidentally bust into an underground river and flood the mine, etc.

I would like underground lava, they could put it at the bedrock level, like a river that can't be penatrated. It would look cool to have a cavern way down with some lava you could fall into and die. I know its not planned for the game but they could easily retexture the water and give some lava pools and rivers at the bedrock level. They could make it optional like a menu setting once they get everything else done, but I think it would add to the game. Maybe a mountain volcano biom with lava. They need more bioms anyways, these cookie cutter bioms don't fit together all to well, more variety is needed.
