What is with that sound?
In the forest areas while walking, killing, scavenging, etc, I'll notice in the background "noise" that occasionally there's a videogame like noise that plays. It's like the old handhelds that came out in the early 80s. You remember? The old head2head football games, etc? It's not always constant but it drives me crazy. What is that sound for? Is it for a secret or something?

Ambience, maybe it's a birdcall you are unfamiliar with, or maybe it's just a placeholder, for something better to come later?

It's most definitely not a birdcall. It is a game sound. Just seems odd that it's a videogame type sound and not something "natural".

Wait, are you referring to the "Resident Evil" Zombie moans?

One of the biomes has a sort of digital sound to it. A cluster of beeps. It's just that biome's version of the ambience tension sounds. I like to think of each biome's sound as being a potential reason for the ghoul plague; in that case, aliens.

I like to think that the forest biome beeping is some sort of ringtone. I find biome ambiance fitting.

I know exactly the digital game sound you guys are talking about, it reminds me of the sounds made in 'Robotron 2084' or 'Defender' from the early 80s and I can't quite nail down which.

I also agree that it is merely ambient biome background noise.

You say it's not always constant... what time about are you hearing this noise? If it's around noon (12:00) and you have airdrops enabled at once a day... it's the plane. That noise always freaked me out at first... I thought it meant a horde had spawned behind me for the longest time.

I still have the ambient sounds all the way off because too many of the biomes have this horrible repeating whine noise as an ambient. Hurts my ears. :(

But I remember some of the other weird calls and sounds were pretty creepy. Don't recall a video game beeping, however. Not saying it isn't there...just didn't notice it.

it's a post apocalyptic world with zombies, giant hornets, nuked cities and other weird mutations, how can you accurately determine what is "natual" in this world?

One of the other biomes features the sound of a crying baby in the background, do you mean there are really babies out there all alone and crying and I'm just sitting in my base letting them all die?

another biome features the sound of people whispering, have I stumbled onto the set of Lost? another features the sounds of some strange gregorian chant, is there some secret cult hiding in the shadows cursing me for walking the Earth?

It's just ambeint sounds to give the game a bit of atmosphere, it needs no formal explanation or background story, it just exists in this world....

And as I said, it is most likely just a placeholder, before they release the final, finished product...

When I said "maybe it is a birdcall you are unfamiliar with" I was reffering to a possible backstory for a sound you can't identify, not having a go at you personally in any way...

Took it a little too deep and personal there. I was looking for a clue on the background sound. Not an in depth discussion on why it belongs or the mixing of ambient sounds for a videogame.

Just so you know, as probably a lot of other people did. The first time I heard the baby crying I went looking for it. When there was no baby then it became lame. What's freakier than a zombie baby?

Whispering? You ever watch the old Friday the 13th movies or Halloween movies? Yeah, whispering sets the tone.

I know the sound mixed in is for ambient atmosphere. It's just completely out of place. The forest setting is kind of a mellow background noise. Birds, wind, etc. The videogame sound is just completely out of place and drives me crazy because I thought it was a "clue" for something I was missing is all.

This is a discussion forum, the whole point of it is to discuss topics with other humans....

I apologize for making that mistake....

If you are playing PvP I'd recommend you turn off ambient sounds. It helps a lot to hear actual threats and not random sounds.

I played with the ambiance on for a while, but frankly it gets old.

None of you have mockingbirds around where you live I take it. LOL we have birds that sould like car alarms, revving engines, kids playing, grage door openers, doors closing, beeping (car horns) dumpster lids closing, and one that soulds like a helicopter.

I think nothing of the digital sounds, becaue if these birds lived near a video game arcade, you would hear those sounds too.

Like I said, you seemed to have taken my posts and replies as a personal attack on you or something. Your reply is more angry than an answer. "It needs no formal explanation or background story...." . Why not? That's what I'm asking for. Why is there a videogame bleep that drives me crazy playing in the ambient music? What is that sound? Does anyone know? I don't need a "this game is ambient" bs answer. I've been gaming since about '79. That puts me at around 35 years of doing it. I know what off the wall ambient sounds, music, etc is. I wanted to know if the "sound" was a "ping" for something I was possibly missing. Like a stash, or an airdrop or a secret.
