Smelly food question
Hi
I started playing this yeserday and am enjoying it, I have a question about smelly food, is there a container you can use while carrying it to stop the smell ?, or only when you put it in a chest, cupboard, etc.

thanks.

The food will smell until you store it in a chest or container or so.
I hope they will include something to contain smelling food while carried.
What about a frigerator in a car ;)
You can reduce the smell by cooking.
Grill raw pork with two eggs and it doesn't smell.

The power of a smelly food can be decreased by putting it in your inventory vs. putting it on your belt. So mouse over the food item and it should have the differing levels for pack vs belt. Also, differnt methods of cooking can dramitcally change the smell. Rabbit cooked with just a stick has a much greater smell range then boiled or grilled rabit.
You could also create recipes for canning food. I created some (in the mods section's custom recipes section) that sacrifice a bit of the hunger value of the cooked items for reduced smell.
cool thanks guys, quite tough/fun game :)
Take a look at your map if you're carrying smelly food. You'll see how far the smell reaches. Light things like blueberries don't smell much. Heavier items like blueberry pie will reach much further. . Raw meat is up there as well but smell is not a zombie magnet. It just alerts them to your presence.

^Best food in the game, eggs and bacon. Lots of health and fullness, no odor.

Pigs were never so sad before I figured that out.

I chase after them with whatever I have in hand shouting "I WILL GET YOU BACON!" ;x

I boil most of my meat, reduces the smell when in your backpack to just 1 meter, which is negligible. The only downside is it requires bottles of water, and you don't get the glass jar back. But sand is really easy to come by in Random mode, so it works out well.

Awesome, I keep forgetting to check the map to see the smell radius for various objects. So I didn't know the boiled goods had such little smell.

All cooked food is supposed to have a smell. Bacon and eggs got missed. Someone reported it in the bug section, so look for it to gain a smell soon.
