Is there a reason to use robotic turret shells?
I didn't know that they reduced fire rate, which is kinda annoying cause it doesn't let on this at all on the description or the ingame stats on the ammo itself, only on the turret provided you switch to that ammo, which was a real bummer.

I did some number crunching and don't actually see a point in using this at all, the bullets do 11.8 damage per shot, whereas the shells do 2.1 per pellet but across 8 pellets which translates to 16.8 damage per shot, so 42.37% more.
However the RPM goes from 105.6 to 75 which is 28.98% less, which leads to the DPS being 1.12% higher, yes, that's obviously extremely negligible, especially for the price of making the ammo being that it goes from costing 3 lead, to 6 lead and 0.2 clay (1 clay in a furnace). Which itself also removes any sorta point of "Ammo efficiency" since it takes over double the resources to make, and that's not including the time being taken to make it across the forge + workbench and the fuel used for the forge.

So, it's got 1% more DPS, less efficiency, less range, and uses extra fuel and time to make. Is there any reason to use this, like, at all?

You should post this on the official site.

The steam forum is mostly just people sulking over glass jars and the hoe.

The hoe?

Old farming tool used to fertilize a block of ground. Obsoleted in A17.

After 5000+ hrs I can say that I have never crafted or used robotic shells. I didn't need the math to clarify why, but you just further cemented my reasoning. There's no need. AP rounds are better but they aren't neccesary either, to a point.

Max out robotics and set down 2 modded T6's with a drum mag, rad remover, barrel ext and full auto and load 'em up with cheap reg rounds and you are unstoppable. Feel free to use the loud auger to mine all day with these 2 bad boys watching your back and you're all set. Wanna go loud in any T6 POI? Go for it.

You use only 2? I have several sets of 2 that i drop down in POIs, giving me several spots to retreat to depending on where i come from or if any of them run out of ammo.
Even before i get T6s i use 3, so that i can place down a "new" 2nd turret before picking up one that needs reloading.

While defending a base i have several of them put down, choosing which ones are active by moving around the base. Ive never had the need for electric defences, but i suppose that would remove the need for me to move at all...

I've used them before, pretty sure they're more accurate up close and more likely to blow limbs off

Not sure about more accurate, but the pellets have a spread. More chance to hit the target or multiple targets.

More accurate? I wouldn't think so, all the damage is spread out but wherever the bullet goes with default ammo is where all the damage is concentrated, I'd imagine it's hard to secure a full headshot with shells, especially given this game's ability to uhh....spawn shots behind enemies when they're pressed against you....like Fallout 3.
yep same NEVER used or built robotic turret , it needs between 16 to 60 shells per zombie.
Best ways to use this crap in in Mazes around a base , build an interlocking fingered wall design to hide the zombies, then have the last couple of walls of steel.
as they come round the last corner, they are at minimum kill distance, instead of wasting ammo at extended ranges.

my brother and myself are still disappointed you cant have 2 drones with guns flying around
OMG now I have to play Alpha16 to try out the hoe.
Thanks!!!!
I think Turrets are MUCH MORE accurate, generally speaking.

also higher chance to slow/knockdown, but again I only used them a few times so it's just an observation, nothing empirical about it
