Personally, the first horde night I just have a level 1 or 2 POI with a flat roof and some bars overhanging the roof and wrapping around most of the building. Stand on the bars, shoot arrows through the bars at zeds underneath. Obviously I also remove any ladders that give access to the roof.

Simple, doesn't take much effort to setup other than wood, and it is effective.

I also usually have spent a half a day raiding bird nests to get eggs and feathers until I have 2+ stacks of arrows made in preparation.
Yeah tbh it's a good shout I build my base out of cobble blocks but for some reason my blood moon has ended at like 1.20 ish I killed all the zombies it was like 3 waves never had this happen well I've had no more zombies left so just wait till 4 I guess

If you build then yes, cobblestone will last a lot longer than a wood structure. If I choose to build (and these days I almost never do that) I will usually just build something square or rectangular, about 10x10 and 4 blocks high with bars I can shoot out from at the 2 block height and a few rows of wood spikes around the whole thing. I build it with a flat top, a hatch and ladder in the middle to get inside with horizontal bars around the edge so I can shoot down easily. I'll build a staircase about 3 blocks away from the base that lets me jump onto the roof so I can get in and out easily but the zeds can't.

If you don't plan to try building a horde base by day 7 (and I wouldn't bother wasting time doing that - you could be out looting) then any relatively solid POI for the first blood moon will do on the default game settings (or lower/easier). Some POIs benefit from placing bars like Venomir suggested, some don't need that. If the POI has flat walls and a flat roof, like some of the gas stations, you can stand on the top of the wall and fire down easily without the need for overhanging bars. Of course block off entrances and remove ladders so the zeds. can't easily get up to you. Drop some spikes in choke points to weaken zeds if you have the resources for that.

Have a planned escape route or two in case the zeds get up to you somehow.

Have lots of ammo for whatever ranged weapons that you have. Have some healing items ready on your hotbar. Molotovs are great for when the zeds bunch up. A coffee is nice to have in case you need to run a lot.

If you kill them quickly it's not too hard to run out of zeds on the first blood moon. Might happen on the 2nd and 3rd as well but after that it probably won't. The wiki has some details on how this works: https://7daystodie.fandom.com/wiki/Blood_Moon_Horde#How_Many_Zombies_Will_Spawn_At_Once?e

Yeah it ended quickly compared to when I played alpha and the new leveling system when I was on console there were no skill books only scamatics and points where the only way to get stuff but yeah from day 8 I'm thinking of getting the mining max out and then dive into some electric stuff i was surprised when I a big wolf came through it dropped a red bag I haven't seen that before

I don't build a base until tire three or four quests. I just put down some box's, sleeping bag and a fire outside the trader im doing quests for.

You can do the first two or three blood moons just out in the open. Depending on game settings and how lucky you get with looting.

3x3 tower of cobblestone with a plate covering of cobblestone.

Maybe 5 or 6 high with chutes I can throw pipe bombs down.

One or two atomic junkies make it really, really easy.
Box myself in a cobblestone castle with several layers of wooden-spikes surrounding the perimeter and hope to hell my 30-40 bullets will get me to 4AM on Warrior difficulty. :theskull:
I play on normal still a pain sometimes the most painful thing is for me getting infected early game the antibiotics are a pain luckily I got lucky with tree stumps

A water tower or something like that surrounded by a massive amount of spike traps.
The water towers are good just fortified the bottom a bit I hate the military bases I can not rember the name but it got the helipad and as soon as u walk down there u got 10 zombies sprinting at you it was night aswell worst choice ever died 2times I think because of where my loot is

Make a couple hundred arrows, gather as much food as you can, go up a ladder on a radio tower or something, break it underneath you, sit and shoot and bore yourself shooting the idiots in the head.

Doesn't work later due to po po puke, buzztards, and boomers, but in a pinch it works, especially when you drop onto your friend's game 30 minutes before nightfall on day 7.

Clear out a hospital and crack open some beers at the top. If it starts crumbling and I fall, at least I'll be drunk.

Trader inventory refreshes periodically so they may not have the crucible if a refresh happened since your last visit. I believe they still refresh on every third day so it happens on day 4, 7, 10, etc.

Forget the crucible unless you are going to upgrade your base to steel.

For crafting, get a wrench and use it on gas pumps and street lights. Not the light pole, but the light at the top, you'll need to climb up.

Toss a point or two into Salvage Ops and you'll have a few hundred steel in no time.
