"Helmet light mod to have less range "
What is the reasoning for this? Atmosphere? Performance?

....I can appreciated an atmosphere type of reason (some players might like that) but not my thing. Seems like every version reduces light-distance or view distance on something.
....hopefully it's not hard-coded so I can change it back.

The Zombies requested this change. They prefer the Dark.
:steamhappy:

It's probably just an ambiance change.

Why not just use Night Vision Goggles instead?
They work fine (except when it's foggy), and there is no range lighting drop-off.

^ I do use the night vision - but I also use the helmet light to make up for when the nightvision doesn't work well/dims to almost nothing (low/no-light areas).

But also - I don't like playing 50% of the time in close to black and white.

7 Days to black and white is not my ideal situation. I did alter the nightvision light so it's more of a super unsaturated vs. true black and white, but still - it's mostly black and white, lol.

It might be a rendering issue. For scavenging I leave a writable box in the middle of a street intersection, but I have to put a temporary POI marker on it because I usually have to be within 10m of it to render. Why have extended helmet lighting when the blocks won't be visible.

Hm. That sounds like a user-settings dependent thing, at least in terms of such a short distance.

I can see them farther than 10blocks/meters away. And in the open "forest" I can see trees/rocks etc a lot farther than the headlight even currently illuminates. >.> So, no, I doubt it.

Even if it is, that's the whole issue I have - it's fine having performance options for light, terrain, trees, grass, blocks, anything, distances - I'm all for that - but they never leave options to have what they used to be, for those that can handle it. They just keep reducing and making that the only option.

It's a rebalance for those who will be turning their brightness down below 50%. If you keep your brightness high and like the current level of light at night then the change won't matter to you at all since you don't even need a head lamp with default brightness.

But they fixed the game to be darker for those who want to turn their brightness down. There's no need to mod anything back to the way it was, just don't turn down your brightness settings below 50%.

Same with the range on the moon brightness. For people who keep the default brightness it won't matter a bit.

That's great in a general way, for sure, so thanks for the reasoning-reason. Nights or indoors too bright etc. was a big complaint, me included.

But I currently altered .xml's so my game is super dark at night/when it's rainy during the day etc. Indoors with no POI lights around it's pitch black. Night time outside if it's raining is almost pitch black, outside of a bit moon light peeking thru storm clouds. Well, excepting the snow biome, that still kinda bright, because, white.

Which is why I know wouldn't want a headlight that only illuminates 3 blocks in front of me or something. Although it does depend on how the lighting is done. I mean, maybe it'll be ok. I just don't want some harsh feeling cutoff "bright to this point then suddenly black!" line, vs. a gradual fade/drop off as distance increases.

Or as long as I can still adjust it via .xml tweaks.
Edit: and no it's not a gamebreaker. I'm just picky, so shoot me. :D
