OP is looking for crafting to auto-pull from storage, so they don't have to sift through multiple crates for the parts they need.

90% crafting goods can fit into one steel chest. With a little bit of work you dont need to be digging through boxes.
Although, its a nice quality of life feature, I find sifitng through storage, a symptom of a poor player storage system. As already noted all general crafting materials fit nicely into one storage container, with maybe a few deviations.

As always there is a mod for that, "Craft from Containers" or something.

Just FYI... That mod tends to cause a lot of issues, and does not play nice with other mods. There is a reason a system like that does not exist in the Vanilla game.

TX, I should have put that disclaimer in my response.

I thought it was the store all feature that did not play nice with the vanilla implementation, that was more the problem, and not the crafting side. Regardless, Caveat Emptor.

Great decrypting. I was lost as well.

I generally use the same organisation of containers. 6 of them, usually, unless I'm playing an unusual overhaul mod that has a lot more crafting than vanilla. The same 6 every time, so I know where everything is. But I still prefer crafting from containers for the convenience.

As always there is a mod for that, "Craft from Containers" or something.

The original craft from containers mod only goes up to alpha 21. It won't work on alpha 1.x.

There is an updated version, called something like craft from containers v1. It's an updated version of the original mod, done by a different modder.

Sphereii's SCore mod library also has a craft from containers functionality that can be turned on or off. It's used by various mods and the latest version works fine with alpha 1.4.

Various overhaul mods have craft from containers. Probably using SCore, which is incorporated in many overhaul mods.

With any craft from containers mod, versioning is particularly important. Even minor changes that most mods work fine with can cause errors with a craft from containers mod. It's a tricky mod to do.

I'm currently playing the Grey's Prophecy overhaul mod on a base game of alpha 1.4 stable. It has craft from containers built in. No problems.

It's OK if you use the right version, the one written for the specific version of the base game that you're playing. The usual cause of issues is mismatched versions, which there's far less tolerance for than there is with many mods. Even a minor change in the base game, a subnumber change (e.g. from alpha x.1 to alpha x.2) can (and often does) break compatibility with a craft from containers mod.

I've found that it's the same with most (maybe all) mods that change the functionality of containers in any way. Versioning is crucial and very fussy.

The craft from containers functionality in SCore plays nice with other mods. It's routinely included in other mods, which is the main purpose of SCore.
Now I may be wrong, usually am, but. I always make more than a box or 2, read storage container and then, I label it. Then organize the bin. I don`t need no steenkin mod:-)

Never had a single issue with it, through several alphas, using several mods.

It should be vanilla in every game in this day and age.

Two solution for your problem:
01. Organize your things to know where everything is and don't waste time looking for things.
02. Mod.

the mods mentioned works great, should really be a core game future by this point, not that hard to implement
