It's nice that you're adding White Walkers in the upcoming 2.0 update, but whatever happened to adding NPC raiders into the game? Last I heard, that was pushed back a little until after 1.0 was released but with 2.0 looming and still no mention of them.. I'd like to know what's up with that?

It's just they keep pushing it back. Now they are saying 3.0 but it sure seems like features that are dreamed up on the fly are making it in while other things promised keep getting shoved aside. These white walker dudes are a perfect example.

Bandits haven’t been delayed to a later update since 1.0 released. They were always slated for the 3.0 update and were never promised for the 2.0 update.

They are behind schedule on the updates though. The 2.0 update that is coming soon was supposed to be finalized at Christmas time which means that the 3.0 update most likely won’t be ready until the end of the year.
ya i know i have been waiting for a bit to but they did say that the weather update would be added and it sounds like it will be in the next update, as for the new zombies thees were also promised to be added early ,also they did say at one point that the npc up date would be added at a much later date so i guess we will just have to wait and see
In addition of the bandits, this feature, IMO, will be huge for the immersion and game changer to make feel the game more alive :
"Dynamic Severe Storms force players to take or build shelters"
They were originally supposed to be in Alpha 15, iirc. Maybe 17. Yeah..

Agreed. I'm very interested in any dynamic event for the game especially when it's related to survival.
ya me to add some new zombies and it should be interesting
theyve been behind on updates for years dont let anyone gaslight you here

Actually I remember a loading splash screen from Alpha 9 that mentions bandits as coming soon. It’s been a hot minute to be sure.

lmfao. Now given we know you well, you'll swoop in here with the ole ackshually with a definition of "delayed".

But on a human level we know that having them on an alpha 9 splash screen from 9 years ago as "coming soon" means they've been delayed since then.

But you like to have your cake and eat it too so nom nom nom nom nom tread that fine line nom nom nom nom

Let's be serious for a moment.

Let's say TFP added bandits tomorrow, would that honestly change the way you feel about the game, or has it passed the threshold of the game being fun?

What I'm trying to say is this. I used to play World of Warcraft Battlegrounds. I was in the Top 3 of my server cluster as Damage Output and Kill/Death ratio. Then it just got worst and worst and worst with the the dumb-down of talents, and attributes, etc. That was years ago. In the last major expansion, they added the majority of the old talent system back, and while it's still a bit wonky, it did bring back some nostalgia, but the game overall, didn't speak to me anymore.

So even though Blizzard added things to the last two expansions that made the game fun for most, I personally already moved passed the game. WoW in general no longer holds the same value as it did in 2004-2012.

Always? Maybe always since 1.0 release? Because I'm sure I recall seeing alpha update notes saying bandits are not quite ready and will be pushed back to the next major update, on multiple occasions... Not that I'm holding it against them. I'm not even sure I want them or not, but either way it's something that needs to be done right, if/when it happens.

Even so, I do mostly agree with the often expressed opinion that it would be better to focus on the really important things (bandits, story) instead of trying to add things nobody asked for or try to fix player behavior.

(and is story something that's even still on the menu? Or has that been retconned to "it was never promised?")

It is quite literally "on the roadmap". Last update section.

Ok, that's actually a relief! I haven't been as active here lately, and the question was based on past discussions suggesting that the "story" would be mostly told through the environment as we explore.

I suppose I should go look at the roadmap.

Edit-
Followup question: Where can this roadmap be found? Other than a vague 10+ year old kickstarter goal.

Roadmap was posted on the "Alpha Exodus" news.

They did a really crappy job with it. And the dates are all wrong since December.
So I made a new one. AI upscaled with readable text and I updated the guesstimates.

The one rule I've learned since 2015 is they will eventually deliver, but most of the time quite later than anyone expected including themselves.

The only time I remember an exception to the rule was with the V1.0 release. I consider that as an anomaly. V2 and later confirm the rule again.
