About finding back to the Game
If you're good with the current Version and Enjoy this is good, but then this Post isnt for you.

So i missed the Game but didnt play for a long time bcause of the bad expirience i had in A21. From what i could read about V1 it would be even worse. With all the Changes it was quite Boring and no fun anymore to me, so I just quit at that time, but was quite active in the forum because i'm interested at the Games progression and opinions on changes but i didnt touch the game since then.

I was lately thinking about a new run but couldnt get me to play it, because i felt overall quite negative about it. Wanted to go to the Discussions like nearly everyday However, I accidentally started the game instead of clicking on discussions, heard the Music and got nostalgic. Since there are not enough Mods fo V1 reverting all that bad decisions (imo) back, like get rid of magazines, old Watersystem and giving Clothes Back i decided to install A20 and found plenty of newer mods for it, i didnt even see them before.

And what shall i say - i was remembered of how much fun this game once was. How i enjoyed playing. The long break was kind of good, so now after that i can enjoy it once more for what it once was. i'm a bit sad about some good features came with A21/V1 i will not be able to have - not everything added or changed was bad. But I hadnt them before so i think its okay. And maybe one day i'll start a playthrough on a new version, if someday theres a real release, a final version and stable Mods for it (And i'm alive till that day lol)

I know thats nothing new or revolutionary at least. But if for you changes made the game unplayable but you quite miss it, maybe its also an option for you if you dont mind playing alone (Even better if you have someone to play an older version with). Just take the version that you enjoyed most, look arround for good mods to refresh it and give it a try. It was once good for you, why not now.

Try some overhaul mod like Rebirth or Darkness Falls and you get completely different mechanics for water, skills etc, some more in style of older versions. Also really recommend Better Biomes and Urban Decay mods, makes the game look like it should.

i dont like complete Overhaul Mods too much in general, they're just changing too much for my liking. Just a bit overloaded. Took a look at darkness falls and some other i didnt remember the name. But didnt hear about rebirth yet, will take a look and read some about it. thanks.

No problem. Rebirth is probably the best and most refined of all overhaul mods atm, it changes a lot of mechanics and is basically 7 Days to Die 2. Especially with Better Biomes and Urban Decay. Rebirth also has a completely new game mode The Purge where you need to clear all POIs of remnant zombies. Not a quick job on bigger maps.
What you made me think with this is : at the end of the day, it's only a game. We all have to decide if we like it enough to play the vanilla version we prefer, play with mods, take a break, or definitely move on to some other good games out there.

And there's no bad choices there. It's about personal preferences and enjoying our gaming time.

Rebirth is even more far away from vanilla than Darkness Falls though. Still would recommend. A lot to learn. Way harder, way slower progression. And more realism. Like you need nails to make a building block.
If there's something that this game will never be is "BORING", that word and this game aren't compatible with each other... idk what you people want, maybe you want too much, State Of Decay is "boring", Project Zomboid is "boring", this one? not really.

Agreed, I think many Rebirth's changes are huge improvements and it doesn't have DF's supernatural stuff which I'm personally allergic to. It might be the thing OP is missing since most things make more sense than in vanilla. It feels more like 7 Days 2 for next gen, and with the environmental mods it even looks like that.

Erm, for many of us who remember the older versions, current is very boring. I say that with so many hours, but those hours are now over 50% of modded versions. But I'm also a person who loves State of Decay and Project Zomboid. PZ, I play heavily modded as well. Mods make games last a whole lot longer than just their normal lifecycle they would normally have. Especially when you want the old things back that have been stripped away because of the fickleness of devs.

Oh, and my current 7D2D play through? Rebirth Purge scenario. Absolutely loving it. Otherwise, 7D2D wouldn't be on my hd right now.

For you and for me maybe (I'm enjoying the game since 2015).

But we need to remember that ppl like different things. When I play with my close friends and relatives, I'm amazed at our differences. One prefer to mainly build huge complex, automated and very efficient Blood Moon & crafting bases. One prefers to paint and work on interior decoration. Another is dead set on doing the max quests possible each day&night. Another loves the wooden bow but hates and never uses the composite bow (I don't even know why). I'm more the multitasking person of the group. We have our fun, it's just not in doing the same things. No wonder we have mods in games, and so many different games too.

And no wonder we can see so many different opinions on this forum.

There is hypocrisy in your statement. You stated that people have too many expectations for 7DTD, yet in the same breath, you also stated:

Perhaps you also want 'too much' from State of Decay and Project Zomboid.

You thought SoD and PZ was boring? Well, people can find 7DTD boring too. Your bias isn't an universal truth. It is a personal truth. So when you untangle your hypocrisy, perhaps then, you can understand that different people can also want different things.

nahh, that Rebirth sounds very positive so far i should give it a try later :)

And yeah, the newer Game Version became boring for me so i dont think the problem is that i'm expecting too much from it, it just changed direction/to something i just dont like anymore.

And yep, well spoken: we are all individuals prefering different Things and thats good the way it is.
I could never get this game to spark for me, on paper this game should be one of my favorites, but whenever I play, I play for 2 or so hours then uninstall.

The reason i keep retrying is because sometimes I see a video and think why don't i Like this game, it looks really fun. rinse and repeat.

Maybe it will click one of these days.

In one of my slightly older posts, I mentioned I wish Steam would bring back numeric ratings, instead of thumbs up/down. I also mentioned that 7DTD is a good game in the sense that it has a lot of foundational pieces in place - that's how mods and overhaul mods can exist the way they do, because the game has the means to cater to those mods. However, ultimately, I gave the game a 6/10. I've spend a lot of time in the game, primarily to play with friends, BUT otherwise, the game specifically doesn't quite speak to me.

For example, I loved Minecraft. 10+ years ago, I played 8+ hours daily. I can't say the same with 7DTD. Though, 10+ years is a long time. Many of us have grown up, found love, started families, gone to war, got retired, etc. Perhaps I'm not as excited with most games, as I once did?
1) There is nothing stopping you from playing a previous version of the game... for free.

2) There is nothing stopping you from downloading mods (including overhauls) for the game ... for free.
