HOW TO GET CHICKENS TO YOUR BASE!
1) Build a chicken coop, and a couple of land-claim blocks.
2) Go to a location to hunt chickens, I'd recommend small towns in the pine forest.
3) Place down your chicken coop.
4) Place down your landclaim block next to the coop (you don't have three blocks out already, do you?)
5) Grab a Chicken.
6) Walk back to your localized chicken coop.
7) Place chicken in coop.
8) Take out "Domesticated Chicken" from the coop and place into vehicle.

Repeat steps 5-8 until location is hunted of all chickens. It helps that Animal Tracker lvl 1 is now a decent QoL trait for this.

Empty hands with an empty hotbar/toolbelt slot and press E once prompted. Like drinking out of a ditch/pond for water.
Like drinking from a ditch or pond, except the pond is very small, and runs around juking you.
discovered how to trasport chickens much easier.
once you place a chicken in a coop it becomes a normal item, so just take a coop with you for when you find a chicken to capture. put it in, then remove it, then pick the coop back up.

You gotta earn using that filter mod!
I had a chicken the wild run up to me and then stop/feed. I of course scooped her up and held her. As long as I didn't move, she remained calm. My spare coop however was still back in town in from of the rooster club.
I experimented with trying to place in my pack on on my bike, no go. Clearly being domesticated is a must. after a few minutes standing there holding the chicken, she did not domesticate, so I released her.
Maybe a new perk, probably in the same tree as Animal Tracker:

Chicken Whisperer: x% chance to be able to domesticate a wild chicken you've caught.

I'm in !!! :steamhappy:
I found that if you don't kill the chickens in The Dead Rooster POI they respawn if you just pick one and put it in the coop.

My base is only 25 meters away so every time I go back there for another chicken, the chicken I picked up had respawned.
Yes, this is a good "how to". That's a good plan. I had my base at the Dead Rooster so I just grabbed the chickens there but if I didn't do it that way, i'd maybe do something like that.

I'm glad the Fun Pimps did the domesticated thing so you can stick them in your inventory. I'm actually very happy with the implementation of the chicken coop. I think they did it well.

Seems like they slowed down the speed of the chickens in the update, i've had a very easy time catching them. Relative to how it was before especially.
A trick to domesticate chickens easily
so catching chickens is hard yes? well there is a trick you can use to do it more easily. The "The Dead Rooster" poi contains chickens that are essentially trapped in a building meaning they can't run far. but there is an added trick you can use. make some space in the building to place a chicken coop and a land claim block and you won't have to travel far to domesticate the chickens and can even get a full chicken coop of chickens. once the chickens are domesticated just put them in you inventory and pick up the chicken coop and land claim block and head home to your base and your done. you see? isn't that easy?

I appreciate this and figured that's what it was, but on god I must be the dumbest mother ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with 600 hours in this game because I cannot, for the life of me, catch one of these things lol.

While The Dead Rooster has the most chickens, the easiest place to get one or two chickens is "The Slummit Apartments" found in towns. There is a "chicken coop" in the far-left apartment if facing the "parking lot" One chicken is stuck under it and blocked by a chain-link fence.

All you need to do is whittle-down the chain link fence until there's about 11 health (using a stone axe) left. then punch it with your fists using an empty slot 'til it breaks, looking at the chook, then hit E immediately when the fence breaks. No chasing it down, it can't run away.

If you are lucky enough to have a tier 2/3 quest at this POI, I would recommend placing down the land claim block afterwards finishing, since putting one down may prevent the quest starting and granting you an easy 2-for-1 chicken.
