Don't know much about game programming, but it would explain the test results you are seeing. Perhaps they thought adding (3x + 2x = 5x) or multiplying (3*2x = 6x) would make it too easy to kill stronger zombies . . .
I don't think I've ever gotten a sneak bonus hit on a body part - just headshots. So aim high..
I've posted probably 5 times with this included as a known issue, but it's never been fixed since it was introduced in the late 6.X releases. I guess it's just not top priority, so I wouldn't expect it to be fixed anytime soon...
If I shoot bodies, I can generate the sneak damage bonus, but they won't drop (obviously).
I suppose it is entirely possible we don't fully understand the hit/damage/kill mechanics yet, or that there's a bit of a random element to it. Could be bugged too, who knows. Seems to work well enough for me however, provided I use correct aim and hit the appropriate body part (the head).
I'm not arguing at all - it is entirely possible it is bugged. What I am doing is called discussing it, that's what forums are for.
Whats the point of sneaking around all stealthed up an the zombie not even knowing its been shot in the head?
Also, is ity just me or do the zombies seem to be able to sence you through walls 5 floors up or below ground?
They have great hearing - even opening your backpack will create enough sound to alert them.
