Any old Iron!

Anyone ran across an Iron vein yet, been playing just under 5 hours and not found anything other than stone while mining.

Yep, friend of mine commented on the different vein types with 7.8. You must just be having bad luck.

Hope It's just that ... Takes a long ass time to mine with stone axe's, just about looted everything that exists in the area so have no iron for pickaxe's ...

Sorry...but then we both are unlucky. I haven´t found any veins either.
Thought to ask in the forum if there are any mining hotspots.

@pyda:
Grab a Stone Axe and travel towards the wasteland. You can scrap metal from the deposits there. 1 of theese deposits makes 6 Scrap metal. But carefull...it seems that you need far more scrap metal for the forge than before. I´d recomend around 25 - 30 of theese deposits.

I found one by accident just 3 dirt blocks down on my first attempt. I did get lucky. However, lots of lead, coal & potassium and only 3 iron. This isn't going to keep my mine profitable!

The veins are different this time around, which is kind of neat. In 7.7, it was all together and kind of the luck of the draw as to what you got.

We found a ton of different veins under Spillway Lake before the roof caved in on us. Look for a clay spot and start there.

Ummm...why dig in the start of the game what i do is smelt down scrap iron(think its 40) to make 4 ingots from that make a pick and then go to the wastelands and farm up some iron gurders >1 gurder = 1 ingot it seems then make many picks and dig all you like :D

Converting iron ore into scrap metal before smelting it is very inefficient. Just put it directly into your forge and you will get a lot more ingots out of it. Same goes for loot items. Putting hubcaps, cans, candy tins etc directly into the forge yields more than changing them into scrap metal first.

The best Spot for me to find iron is near the river. Like Baliseth said

I dug for over half hour found no iron vein. Usually i find iron in under 10 min so must be rarer now.

Also I like the old rock texture better, they lightened the texture and I don't think it looks as good now, not realistic.

Thanks Baliseth. I still haven't found any. Add that frustration to the bugs causing crashes (at least during multiplayer) and I'm thinking I'll wait for the next hotfix before spendign much more time.

I have to agree about the color of the stone.....it looks more like chalky limestone, almost cartoonish, compaired to how it was up to last patch...I liked it before.
