Metal Bars Can you break them

I created some metal bars as a trap. But needed to redo from start. I can not break the bars
with the Sledge Hammer. Does anyone know how to destroy metal bars to move them? Pickaxe, TNT, . Would be nice if you could just pick them back up.

Iron bars are just really really tough. Enough smacks with a pickaxe, and they'll be destroyed.

You can destroy iron bars with a pickaxe (like 8-10 hits if I recall) or auger but can't pick it back up. Better be careful when placing it (same goes for a few other blocks as well)

PS sledgehammer's main use is as a melee weapon (best one in the game);
Dirt/sand: shovel
Wood of any kind: fireaxe/chainsaw (though it can be faster to cut trees using a shovel to remove the dirt block below)
And pickaxe/auger for the rest (stone, concrete, metal...) (actually the auger is fast for any block whatsoever)

And as Daniel said, if a weaker block supports the block you want to destroy, better destroy it; although note that (for what I've seen) then you can't pick up the block that fell

Yes, you can destroy it with TNT. Pickaxe is the best tool to break it, if you don't want to destroy the blocks around it.
