1 Iron Ore= 1 Scrap iron?

I don't think I am the only one who believes this is a big problem, before the March update an ore gave you many craft items, the main one for me being scrap iron, it was my best source as I remember each iron ore giving me over 20 scrap iron, which meant I could forge to keep my tools up to scratch and build better walls, now it seems an iron ore gives me a single crap iron, I can hardly keep myself stocked with a pickaxe never mind build iron walls, is there something I have missed or is everyone finding this a problem?

i think there is a difference if you use the craftingmenu or if you use the forge to turn iron ore into iron

If you smelt it, you get more than if you break it down in the crafting window.

How can I smelt it? I have tried putting it directly into my forge if that's what you mean and it is about the same as a scrap metal

Just place the iron block (the raw ore block) into the metal slot up top. Make sure you have the iron mold in, then feed the forge fuel like normal. It'll smelt into (2?) bars I think - it's been reduced from Alpha 6 a bit. You don't get 7 bars per raw ore anymore.

Yeah, that's what I mean but it doesn't do much more than a scrap metal which sucks

It takes 3 (?) scrap metal to smelt into 1 iron ore ingot. 1 raw iron ore block gives two ingots when smelted. That's the equivalent of 6 scrap iron - nothing to scoff at.

I think what Thayer may be getting at is it's much more difficult to make reinforced siding now. Before you would just break the ore into scrap and then into the siding. I remember always doing this to help bulster my base.

Put both iron ore and scrap metal blocks (the I-beam gurders in industrial wasteland) into the forge.

Do *NOT* craft them.

You get 6 lbs (2 ingots worth) when you do it this way vs 1 scrap iron.
