Something needs to be done about Hackers.
Its toxic to the gaming environment especially for a new game like 7DTD, if players get fed up with the game because every server they go to is hit by hackers destroying everything, what encourages them to stay and play? These hackers will end up hurting your game, people passing on by word of mouth through twitter, facebook etc dont touch 7DTD, they do nothing about hackers.

The report function is inadequate and doesnt even work on them, your suppose to see player profile names yet the hackers names are curiously missing from the list, making it difficult to report. Some players dont even have a steam profile so you cant even see details of those players to report.

Personally I think game breaking bugs and hacks should be dealt with before moving on to pretty landscapes. Why bother with pretty landscapes if the map is blown to hell by rocket launcher/tnt etc spam.

Some of the hacks I have come across ingame so far.
God mode and Access to all blocks weapons etc when cheat mode isnt active on the server
Friendly fire is off but still able to use weapons that shouldnt be able to kill to kill other players
Being able to instantly port to players spawn points
Able to see where all players are when player location icons are turned off.
Able to hide there player profile when view players on recent games is accessed

These exploits should be dealt with, how do you test a game in a multiplayer setting when hacks are used blatantly without fear of reprisals.

I hate to be that guy, but, it's in beta. You're asking that a unfinished game have everything worked out.
dude....how can the beta continue if the hackers drive away all he players? rememeber dayz mod? remember what happened when hackers pulled the same ♥♥♥♥ they are now? the mod almost lost all support. it can happen here too.
Umm, did you miss my example in thread already of Rust. They've spent development time, effort (thier own Cheatpunch Anti-Cheat), and money on 3rd party (Valve Anti-Cheat, [bans across any VAC enabled games]) and yet still have an admitted problem with cheating.

I would rather they build the game right now. People need to remember how games like this evolve. Look at minecraft, server side checks and stuff are mostly handled this day by mods (which are not even Officially supported for Minecraft yet). We are still extremely early in this game's development cycle. People are just now looking at and learning how to mod it. Give it a little time. Mods and security don't just appear overnight.

I'll point out the game usage in the past week is the highest it has been since it came out on Steam. Certainly looks like the sky is falling folks are driving people away (rolls eyes). Need less :tcry: and more :tdealwithit: or patience.

EDIT: Oh, did I forget to mention, all of the Official Rust servers as owned, operated, and controlled by Facepunch (thus have VAC and their own Cheatpunch enabled) are servers plagued with these problems? Meanwhile there are servers running with VAC disabled, Cheatpunch disabled, and don't have such problems. Reason, mods that the Valve Anti-Cheat and Cheatpunch anti-cheat block. Such mods include a bounty mods, protection mods, economy mods, vote kicking and banning mods. So I'll again ask do we want The Fun Pimps to waste time and money on Anti-Cheat software and/or developing their own anti-cheat, or just make the game better and let the modders handle the cheaters like they do better than nearly every commercial anti-cheat for nearly every game that doesn't block mods by default with poor anti-cheat technologies?

It's not in Beta, its in Alpha, big difference.

How can people be bothered by hacker?! There is an option to add a password to your game, use it. Never met a hacker on my server.

Unity Engine. Want a comparison on how much effort you can put in and fail to prevent cheating? Look at Rust (uses Unity Engine also) which recently did a big announcement they know they've got a cheating issue.

Things they've got, file verification, some of their own checks, & payment to Valve for licensed Valve's Anti-Cheat (thus getting banned there bans in a number of Steam games). Status: didn't I just mention they did a big announcement noting even with all of that they've still got a cheating issue?

I'd rather they make the game better than spend time, money, and resources to prevent something that will never be prevented.
FWIW, one area that needs and will likely get improving is server administration. Better admin tools means admins can better handle and protect their servers as they see fit (which ongoing diligence is the only method of dealing with such cheaters).

-- On another note: Are you saying the people did not show in the TAB list when you looked? Are you saying they did not show when you typed 'lp' into the console? Are you saying they did not show when typing 'le' into the console? Hard to understand what you mean by don't show.

I have to agree with Red on this one...
Hackers or Bugers or griefers... what ever you call them always find away..

No matter what you do the can and will find away aroud it...

Try this...
log in to STEAM using somthing along the lines of TOR.... play the game hack and grief away till you get banned... now log into STEAM normaly...no ban... wrong IP wrong account... wrong everything....
Thats just an example... then you have the program hackers, the pros and about a thousand more that know or think they know most the basic stuff...

This game is in ALPHA... yes it will take time but they will come up with a fix...

Untill then just deal with it and move on...
we all have had this issue...
we all have had nothing to be able to do about it...
The kick/ban feature has been fixed and now works...us it..

Else.... Build a bridge...

Hacks exist its not a myth, I wont promote or advertise hacks or how to search for it. I only care about fixing the code , hack proof the game like you zombie proof your base, its a continual process since hackers also evolve ways to circumvent gaming code.

There is no disagreement. Cheats exist, and always will. Read above: http://steamcommunity.com/app/251570/discussions/0/558747921893138345/?tscn=1392486626#c558747922272914547

Then answer:
I'll again ask do we want The Fun Pimps to waste time and money on Anti-Cheat software and/or developing their own anti-cheat, or just make the game better and let the modders handle the cheaters like they do better than nearly every commercial anti-cheat for nearly every game that doesn't block mods by default with poor anti-cheat technologies?

Its in their best interest to hack proof the game, and you have seen how hackers have cost gaming companies serious cash, look at Sony with the hacked accounts drama, cost them alot of money, Its funny how personal details data is "We gaurentee Your personal details are secure" blah blah but not "We gaurentee your gaming experience is secure", They invest alot of money into this aspect to protect privacy of their clients but what about the integrity of their game?

Exploits happen but outright hacks shouldnt, as Ive said before its an ongoing battle between both parties, but it must be done, as you have said there are various anticheat systems working, Account bans etc, its a never ending war against it.. but to do nothing about it? thats your solution? ignore it till the game is complete then worry about it? what about the gaming experience now that is undermined by these players.

Griefing isnt restricted to hacks, griefing can occur without the need for 3rd party programmes to undermine the games code, players are quite capable of being jerks without the need for hacks, so why use them at all?

You should reread what I wrote as you've completely gotten everything I wrote wrong. I have said the various anti-cheat systems DO NOT WORK. I even provided examples of 2 anti-cheats systems used at the same time on a game using the same engine (thus just as vulnerable to cheating).

I then pointed out those anti-cheat system degrade and diminish the value of games for legitimate players and administrators by blocking mods.
I then went even further and pointed out that those anti-cheat systems PREVENT the mod community, which is often much faster to react, from helping handling cheaters.
I then make the comparison that pretty much all anti-cheat systems fail and do the same damage to legitimate players and admins. Again pointing out the community is where you should look for good protections, all of which will come in time. Steam general availability (not counting pre-alpha and Kickstarter access) since December. Further, there was a lot of confusion as to if mods were allowed or not till rather recently. I meant working as in "being used" by steam. as you pointed out, and since hacks are happily going on unchecked of course it doesnt work, thats why Im posting

Well here we are, about a year later and you know what? The ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hacking ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are still here. Shooting through the walls under the ground. Looting bases and making those players quit the game. When the ♥♥♥♥ is something going to be done? This is completely unacceptable of any game developer. REGARDLESS of how difficult it may be to stop. It appears as though nothing is being done to slow this down.

If that's your assumption, you'd be dead wrong. And there are plenty of other hacker topics to discuss on without necroing this one.
