Try picking some flowers and presenting them a nice bouquet.
If a zombie is dead, it can't be killed. Killing is the ending of life, so it requires the target to be alive first.
Is a zombie dead? Traditionally, that is part of the definition of "zombie". It's also the case in the vague scraps of lore that exist in the game, particularly dialogue from Hugh.
What is life, exactly? It's a valid question.
It's also probably not what the OP meant. But the thought flittered through my head so I indulged it.
