I got him with a crossbow W/Stone Bolts running backwards, tried it again with the bow, well you already how that turns out.
They are very easy to take down, are slower, lose interest in you really fast and give great food, in fact, I havent killed a single pig or stag since A12. Bears are the easiest hunt there is.
Just dont get close. Kinda like.. you know.. in real life.
Did you just run back to your cabin or something? Thats not smart, just run in a different direction, they stop chasing in a few seconds already.
Also, bears arent zombies, thats why they attack zombies (and why you can eat their meat).
And as Dutchie said, if all else fail, run in a straight line and they'll stop chasing before you're exhausted.
Of course, I suppose the diff level will change the number of arrows needed to kill them. I'm around middle diff.
I dont understand why people have such trouble versus a melee-only enemy that is a whopping great giant target, when you have the advantage of ranged weaponry, stealth AND simply being able to run away.
Ontop of the fact that the Bear gives itself away every single time with those telltale grunts and growls.

Just constantly backpedal while you shoot. Stealth-crouch for every shot and every shot will do x2 damage even if the Bear is currently charging you (animals are bugged in this regard).
Even at a walking pace from a moderate distance, moving backwards, it doubles the amount of shots you can get in before needing to run.
If you're competent with controls, you can even run backwards whilst shooting and the Bear has no chance whatsoever. Your only limitation is stamina or accidentally running over a cliff.

I only agree with the Bear attack range needing adjustment. I've literally had Bears hit me through a 4 block thick wall or sometimes out in the open when I think I am well clear of their range for a last final shot, but they manage to sneak in a hit anyway.
Game-wise as a whole its ridiculous that any enemy can out-range you in melee terms via punching or claws when you're wielding tools and weapons like a club or hammer. That extra reach of the player's weapon should guarantee at least a slight advantage in range, but according to the .xml code oftentimes the enemies actually outrange you by a significant amount, fist versus sledgehammer.
To really make my point clear, the Hunting Knife has more range than the Sledgehammer.
CopZombieHand has more range than both.
It's a bear. Their bite comes in at 1,000 pounds per square inch. They can bite through 6" in diameter pine trees. They can run at 35 MPH, easily running down any human ever born.
So, if anything, they're too weak. You can take one down with a 9mm pistol. You try that light caliber on a bear in the wild and you're toast. Most hunters consider a .357 magnum or a .40 cal the minimum for bear self-defense. And as for hunting with pistols....
Well, there is the old expression goes something like this: "if you use a pistol, better to shoot yourself then the bear."
So, please, stop crying for a nerf. He's already under-powered.
No. Because you have the same reach issue. And I'm sure you, like many of us, are probably more than happy to club zombies who clip throgh doors and walls. Especially the dogs.
thank you...... i really dont understand how some people thing bears should be weak....
7 arrows really shouldnt be enough....half of em wouldnt even get through the hide...
You can be invincible with thousands of rounds of ammo, the best armor and weapons - but it doesnt help when the game spawns a dog horde literally 2 feet infront of you by that same lightpost in the city where they always seem to spawn.
You can smash zombies who stick their heads and limbs through doors but sometimes they do the same and whack you through a solid wall.
You can launch yourself into space opening a door with a candle above the entranceway, or do the same by chopping trees and adding Satellite Trees to near-earth Orbit.
Most of your armor is irrelevant given that hit-damage is specific to WHERE you are hit, meaning your helmet and gloves are the most important pieces of your equipment. Your chest, legs and boots rarely, if ever, actually take a hit and thus any protection they offer is irrelevant.
Bears have too little health and are too slow and too common, but have too much range on their attacks.
Cop Zombies are invisible even 20 feet away with max view distance unless you're looking through iron-sights or zoomed in. A bug particular to A12.
Many items are simply useless or completely obsolete when a superior option is found.
We can craft reinforced concrete with rebar frames, ammunition, medical kits and our own biofuel but we cant craft a simple cloth shirt or lightsource that doesnt need to be held (Duct-tape a flashlight to your forehead for gods sake).

So, the game still needs a lot of work. A lot.
But ontopic, the Bear's range needs to be adjusted.
