Zombie waves. How do they work?
So i just bought the game today and died a good few times before i made it to night. I finally managed to get some decent loot and survive till night, i hastily put up a 2 block high wall and made my stand against...2 zombies.

That's all i saw all night. What gives!:/

So i went gathering during the day, and came back to my base and was putting stuff into the storage. Then i hear zombies outside. I go to look and there's about 20-30 at my door, but it's daylight!

So i know nothing about this game. The impression i got was you were free at daytime, but at night you had to hole up in your fort and repel the wave of zombies that night brings.

Is my impression true, or do zombies just randomly attack your base?
Do they ever horde against you when you're not in your base, when you're out gathering? If so, that'd be a sticky situation.
Do the waves increase in numbers each night? I'd heard they do from someone, but wasn't sure how accurate that information was.

I'm sure i'll have more questions as i've barely learnt the basics. This is the main one for now though. Thanks in advance!

Well most of my time played was before patch 8 and but from what ive seen, they added some patrolling zombie hordes that often come by wherever you happen to be. If you remain silent they shouldnt be a problem, also during the day they are easy to deal with and can be a decent source of loot.

I added you on steam if you wanted to COOP, ive been looking for a partner myself.

Patrolling zombies, eh? Interesting.

How about the night time zombie waves of doom, do they happen? I've seen pics of huge fortresses with untold amounts of defences around, so they must attack in force at some point. Unless it's just the random patrols.

And as the days pass, do the zombies get more numerous?

I'll add ya, might play co-op some time. Just gonna mess about in SP for a while though i think :)

I believe they made it so that when you're in a specific area for a period of time, a swarm of zombies will spawn nearby on the map. I was building a fort with a friend and we had 4 large swarms spawn within a few days while on a private server.

In gameplay options theres a zombie behaviour option, I think feral will hone in on you regardles of if your making noise or being stinky, you can also crank up the zombie spawn and difficulty. One of the best parts of this game! If you don't like something, theres probably an option to change it. I like playing "Walking dead" style, where zombies never run, but are plentiful, and can kill you with just a couple hits. Just watch out for dogs if you play this way.

First few nights aren't too bad... game gives you a lil breathing room. After a few nights tho, you better have some decent shelter otherwise you'll die... a lot.

That's good to know! Was looking forward to hiding up at night and fending off the locals.

Lol, first few *nights*? I can't even make it past a few minutes. :p

I'm loving the vibe, I'm terrified every time I start a new game. Also excited about finally figuring it out, but wow am I failing at the learning curve.

I need to find a good newb gathering/crafting/survival type of chart and print it. I just keep punching bushes, picking up rocks and trying to hide in buildings, and it's not working. ;)

Fuzzy... stay mobile, and stay quiet...... rock (sharpened rock) grass (plant fiber) and a stick will make your first quiet weapon. Keep gathering sticks, rocks, and feathers and you'll soon be able to make a crossbow; the most useful weapon in the game (until you find a sniper rifle)

Don't move a lot at night, and if you do have to move, do it in sneak mode, with no lights on! Follow raods, and loot cars..... avoid houses, they are spawn points, and you may be in trouble quick :)

Later, avoid noisy weapons like the shotgun and smg.... and with any firearm, don't shoot it a lot, or you will be literally mobbed by zombies.

Have fun!

lol

Lenk's advice is solid.

Once a new player reaches a certain tipping you'll be able for venture about with a little more freedom.

And one would hope with a lot less dying :)
