Multiplayer RP Rules
I play this game with my daughter in order to enjoy the survival of the zombie swarms.

We've developed some special rules of our own that some of you may enjoy using when playing with friends or family to create a bit of a greater challenge. These ideas don't work with random people joining your world because you can't force them to follow the ideas. This came about due to the fact that currently there is NO reason to worry about death really, and there is no RP drive for the game in the current stage of developement.

Our rules are simple:

1: You don't get to place a bedroll/bed till you've met up with other people and choose a safe house. The idea behind this is if you die, then you're dead and you can respawn at a random spot. But if you're with another person then you didn't die really, you were just overtaken/beat down and someone had to save you and drag you to safety.

2: We set a timer from 7:30am-7:30am next day, if you "die" more than twice during this period then you have to pick up your bedroll/bed and put it into a chest. This way if you die a third time you go back to a random spawn point as a new survivor. This causes it so dieing sucks since you'll have to travel across the map again, and creates an RP effect of there being only so many times you can be saved before you're actually killed.

If you have interesting ideas, I'd love to hear them. Perhaps some of you could join us in our world and work together for a common goal. We don't play more than a few hours a day however. As it currently stands we password protect and limit to 2 players because I don't like the random Griefers that sometimes pop into maps and either kill random people or ruin stuff that was created.

You could set a rule that if you die you have to go to the nearest house or building and get up on the roof making enough noise to attract a horde of zombies and then put out a call for help (pretend the chatting is a radio). Once the others on the server are able to rescue you then you can return to join them as a "new survivor".

I like this.

There's the basic stuff in the game options. Full day/night cycles, max out Zed damage, maybe jack up loot search timer? Maybe not having people appear on the map too.

I'd entertain the idea of having to use a combo of bandages and antibiotics if you EVER get hit. This will put more value on actualy valuable things like medicine.

If you opened your game up to some other people, you could establish trading and other sorts of alliances. When I play with other folks, we build relatively close to each other but far enough away that we can't totally depend on each other.

Maybe other stuff will come to me. Shoot me an invite. I behave myself and I don't take from others. Or do dumb stuff like fire off weapons to draw hordes.

Oh, as far as loot is concerned I already set it to 30 Days, and air drops was 48 hours, but thinking to push it back a bit too.

Did that for the effect that once a house is searched, you can't just stop by every few days/week to restock on stuff.

One thing I wish I could figure out how to mod is growth of food, I feel it grows way too fast and that you should have to live off of foraged stuff until you actually have a working farm. I was thinking 7-10 day grow time on food would make it more enjoyable, but as it stands we haven't really bothered with farming yet really.

I will look into inviting some of you guys. Just warning, it's not a persistent server. It's only available usually around 8:30/9pm-11pm est or so. We usually only do a couple of days each night, but with the lack of pause and too much violence I don't play it till after my younger kids are in bed.

The rule that I'd like to have (which I'm hoping the devs add) is perma-death.

If you die... the game ends. Start from scratch. Lose all loot. Lose all structures.

It's really the only way to give you the most realistic experience possible. If you think about it, you'd never go out at night and you'd avoid melee with zombies at every chance.

Well, I agree to a point Storm.

Right now there is the loss of loot. And I suspect that once they introduce skills there will be either degregation of skills or loss of all skills/abilities.

As far as the structures are concerned however, I do disagree actually. If zombies were running around killing people, there is a good chance that you might come across a fortified house with guns and ammo and other stuff in it because the person was either out scavaging or actually got themselves killed.

So perma-death, but leave structures and find a way to flag structures that were owned by a player that died to actually spawn zombies like houses in the default map do. Might have to somehow be tied to the bed/bedroll in the long run. It would look something like: If player A dies x number of times, then player As bedroll will spawn x number of zombies each day.

For single player offcourse... :D
But yes if you die, restart all. Maybe make it a option so people that want to relax in the game get a chance too.

That is some good parenting! I applaude your efforts. Your idea is a good one too sounds fun. Good luck with your server :)

Thanks YamaKami,

I try to be a good parent. I have 4 kids and I ran a daycare for younger kids out of house for a bit. Quickly learned that kids don't understand there is a line between right and wrong, and that just because dad does it in a game doesn't mean it's ok. A few months back one saw me play Skyrim once, because I didn't realize he was in room... still trying to break him of talking about killing things and saying his younger sister is a monster he needs to kill, or chase her around house saying he's the monster and she needs to kill him.... :(

My praents allowed my brother and I to watch all the R rated action movies we wanted. Provided they were not full of sex and drugs and it was just movie violence. Before they ever let us do that however, they showed us how movies were made with special effects and that it was not real. Behind the scenes footage and stuff before it was mainly CG special effects. So as much as I liked watching Arnold Schwarzenegger take on an army, I always had the understanding he was not really killing anyone. That it was fake blood and pyro technics for entertainment. Not sure how old your boy is yet, but maybe that could help you. Keep up the good work though, the world needs attentive parents like yourself. That is how we stop school shootings and slender man killings and the like.

+1 to the entire discussion.

Not a parent myself but it looks like you folks have it figured out.

LOL he will turn 6 in Sep, his sister just turned 4... so yea, I need to be more careful with anything violence related in our house. Their older sister is mature enough to watch it and not be bothered. She's even brought up questions in Thief about where does all the loot go, am I eating it and pooping out gold coins? Aparantly Garret needs a backpack or something :)

We also ended up with a bunch of 3-6 year olds running around trying to kick each other at one point because one watched Power Rangers at home and decided it was cool... Was funny due to fact that at that age they lack the coordination to pull it off, but way uncool when they are getting hurt. It was an only child being funny at home then infecting a daycare with hitting and kicking issue.

Thanks for the support though guys. Ended up off topic, but hey, as long as it's not a flame war it's all good.
