Candle provides less light and less of a heat footprint, it seems. I have had a lot better luck with my cabin defense model using candles instead of torches.

The torch can be used as a makeshift weapon if circumstances are dire, though I don't encourage it.

I like the torch more. I canplace them anywhere, They give more light. Both are good, I would say let your resources decide. If you can make more candles make them. same with torch. Be careful though, I have gone to far with torches and it can drop your fps (cause of fire) I also have seen a libary roof cave in because I put torches on the walls up near the ceiling and they caused it to colapse for whatever reason.

Candle and torch doesn't do anything for heat. To some extent forge and campfire. The name can lead to mistake, but it's heat as in activity induced heat, not like heat.
In the case of fire and forge, heat comes from using combustible (IE activity), and not because you are generating heat.

I play with the heatmap, and never seen an increase in heat because of any light/heat source. It will probably be added in the game sooner or later, but not right now.
