Are you still using the Gyro?
Since the new weather mechanic, flying anywhere has become a little more challenging to navigate and land. I now take my 4x4 with me if I want to get into a large urban area when the weather closes in. Landing or being anywhere near mountains on your final approach is just hilarious in a rain storm or fog with Visual Flight Rules.

Considering the amont of game time you need to reach the gyro, I am using it less and less.

Why unbake any last sense of challenge in the game. Its already an endgame vehicle and you are pulling the fog out? take a split second to open your map, see where you are in the city, and land through the fog like a decent pilot : ). Line up with the road, descend slowly, there you go. And if its an unexplored city with no map exposure, good. You flew into fog willingly in an unknown area.

To each their own but I think that's weaksauce.

Heh, it's not about challenge. I enjoy watching the buildings and mountains go by, and looking at things from a different perspective, like the roofs of poi's - which you don't get to see like that at any other time. Also it gives me a sense of satisfaction quickly flying past things that would be difficult terrain on the motorcycle. You don't get that sense of moving quickly when you can't see the ground. That's a large part of why I enjoy the gyro. Not seeing the ground takes away both those things.

btw - if the gyro is what you consider "challenge", then your idea of "challenge" is definitely super lame weaksauce. :) Just being honest. Flying the gyro is easy and relaxing, not a challenge, lol.
Not sure if "last sense of challenge in the game" got lost in translation on you or what happened there. But no, the game isnt remotely challenging at any difficulty at any time after the first few in game days. As in, nothing is difficult and the one bit of difficulty thats forced on you and cant be cheesed, you just simply remove. Landing through fog was the aforementioned challenge, not flying in the first place, which is way too forgiving esp on hard landings if you even manage a hard landing for whatever reason.

heh.

Nice riposte though.

The issue I have with a larger vehicle is not being able to maneuver thru smaller spots like all the damn shopping carts on the road. lol Does it just destroy them?

I love the gyro. I build an elevated runway connected to my base so that i can come and go without having to push through zombies.
Some instrumentation mods would be useful. Especially things like an altimeter, an autopilot or way of defending against bird attacks.
I don't mind the fog, I like the challenge of landing smoothly but it does get boring when you've got 6 km to cover to do certain quests and all you can see is a whiteout.

The 4x4? No. Your truck will take some damage, but you can just back up and go around.

Gyro is nice if I have to go long distances especially to remove the fog of war from the map. Great way to get the fastest travel in the game done for long distances since terrain doesn't impact it's performance unless you crash not paying attention.

I like the Gyro, but it's certainly not as overpowered as in A18. I handle fog by flying just over the tree tops (the fog seems to block vision past about 15-20 blocks). I like flying between tall buildings as a mini-game, but that game ends when it's time to shift-key away from Vultures. It feels like A20 Gyro take off is harder because the Gyro's tail hits the ground pretty often, which sends the nose into a quick nosedive that takes a long time to pull out of. If you include the Super Charger mod, then the take off runway gets about twice as long unless you've got quite a bit of practice with the Super Charger (as soon as the nose comes up, stop accelerating forward but let the gryo gain just a little altitude (so the tail clears) before pulling up more, and then shift-accelerate to gain height and level out).

The gyro is awesome once you practice landings. I hated it in the beginning, but gave it another try last playthrough and it was great. The main issue is that you miss collecting resources like iron en route, but by that point you likely have too much anyways. Also, not sure why it can't steer like other vehicles with the mouse...hard to simultaneously swing left or right with forward and full throttle while also controlling height up and down.

Vultures are a pain with or without the gyro, so I just added a mod to slow them down 50%.

^ On the motorcycle you can outrun them, but if you want to avoid the hassle on the way back then merely get some distance and stop and get-off. They fly straight at you giving you time to line up a perfect spear thrust and one shot them(if at a higher spear level). Don't even need to worry about using a shotgun. On the BMs, the vultures can now catch up to you(COUGH COUGH COUGH).
pryt 30 ENE 2022 a las 5:28
If you fly high enough vultures won't bother you.

And landing, well, plan ahead, take away throttle and dip down the nose a bit, it's fully automatic.

For landings on buildings, like Shotgun Sessiah T5, just fly towards, slow down, pull up and be fine. Takes maybe 2 or 3 tries to perfect it. You could also slowly fly above it and simply jump.

The gyrocopter is not that hard to handle, just accept that it is NOT a helicopter.
Mithrandir 30 ENE 2022 a las 5:32
I use it ASAP to travel between cities and biomes, with the bike to explore the city.

Vultures attack, but with shift speed, you lose them.
Haruspex 30 ENE 2022 a las 6:10
I mean the fog doesn't really pose a difference just go in a straight line following the marker. But I did stop using Gyro just because Motorcycle is a role play of mine to keep myself from getting bored.
