Just go to a low point in the landscape, then dig down past the sandstone...

Hi guys, and hello Scottious.

I would usually use my stone axe (You can craft it by place single fiber + single small stone + wooden stick , placing those three items in the crafting area would yeild a single stone Axe). So I usually would use my stone axe to hit on one of these big dark looking rocks in the Desert Biomm just keep hitting one of them with your stone axe probably around 10 times and the big rock will break down into smaller junks, keep hitting until the entire rock disappeares into smaller junks,

and while the big rock breaking down into smaller junks keep holding the E-Key on your keyboard (or keep hitting it frequently) so that you would be collecting whatever junks break down from this rock while you keep on hitting it.

finally, once the entire rock vanishes and you have collected all these junks, open your inventory and usually you should find probably a number of regular stones (The ones you need for a forge) plus smaller stones and plus some iron fragments ( so it is very much like collecting three item types from a single big dark rock). this works very well for me. I hope this tip helps you too Scottious. :-)

Best Wishes & Good Luck,

~Sam~

No they don't. What I "think" Sam is refering to are the black/white looking piles of Stone located in the other bios. I would keep searching the desert until you come across another bio. Just pick a direction and keep going.
Or you can dig down about 20-30ish blocks of sand until you come across the bedrock (stone).

Short of finding a biome patch or a different biome, dig down. If you do not have a shovel yet 3 small stones and some sticks will fix you right up (stone shovel). Lots of sand to go through 1st on th edown side, on the up there is nothing easier to dig through.

Also please disregard everything salman.the.exorcist said in regards to getting stone. That is only a method to get more small stones. You cannot get stone using that method.

Yeah I knew about the normal white rocks that take ages to break and give you stone, looks like they dont exist in desert biome, all good but I took the first guys advice and went balls deep into the earth, some would say I even got the balls in too :/

Get better at exploring...there has to be something else out there.

I never found digging through the sand in the desert a major issue...pretty quick/easy, really. At a low dip in desert elevation sometimes it's not even that far under. I've hit stone in the desert at 10-15 blocks. Although it's more commonly 20-25ish.

And of course, those times you find a cave fairly quickly, you can always get it from those initial without sand-digging.

The added bonus of digging through the sandstone to get the stone is turning the sandstone into fine sand, then once you have a spare jar and clay to make a glass jar mold, you'll have plenty of fine sand for making plenty of glass jars on your new Forge.

It's just a time consuming and somewhat tedious task than anything. Usually, by the time you are able to dig through the 20 or so layers of sandstone, you'd be able to go exploring for another biome, looting and opening your map even further. It's really a matter of preference then.
