Vanilla v. Modded...
I only have about 200 hours in this game, i enjoying it and thought I may try using some mods to enhance my gaming experience in game... My question is(though I have no idea how to word this)... if I start adding mods to the game, does it mess with the games i have going now or only the games i start with the mods.. can i continue to play the vanilla games i have active now and not worry about them becoming modded if i have started other games with the mods enabled... no ides if i said this correctly or if it even makes sense, but as i have no idea about mods, i want to become educated on them before i start integrating them into my game...

Mods you add now will affect all save games you load after that. Old ones from before the mod and new games you create after. Another way to look at it is you are modding your 7dtd game installation, not your savegames.

It is possible to juggle more than one copy of 7dtd with different mods and savegames using manual folder copies. So you can probably achive what you are trying to do by making backup copes of your steam 7dtd install folder - for example, a copy called unmodded (made before you add any mods), and a copy of the game folder with your favorite mods installed.

Thank you for the comment… I am a little lost on this as I have not opened the folders for this game ever yo know what is going on in there… is there a vid or walk thru somewhere that I can see yo better understand? What you said makes some sense, but as I have no idea as to the nature of the internal workings of the game.. I am a tad bit lost on it… I appreciate you trying to help me understand, but as my name implies… I am not that smart and need my hand help in some things lol…

As I understand it… adding mods to my game folder now… will put mods in all games there, saved and new… correct?

Once you do an Overhaul mod, you will NEVER go back to Vanilla.

TBH The only reason 7D2D has survived this long is because of the Overhauls, PERIOD.

I think this happens only if you load those games while the mods are still installed. I've played vanilla, installed mods, started new games, removed the mods, and gone back to my vanilla saves with no problem.

If you choose the right overhaul, maybe. War of the Walkers is a downgrade from vanilla in my opinion. Darkness Falls has a lot going for it, though. I've never tried Undead Legacy since I assumed the encumbrance system would annoy me too much.

installing and uninstalling an overhaul mod can lead to a corrupted save
if you have a vanilla save in progress finish it and THEN install an overhaul mod

if you are looking for an insane challenge try Darkness Falls
if you are a fan of magic try Sorcery
if you are looking for what 7days should be after 10 years of development try Undead Legacy

after installing an overhaul mod you will never play vanilla again

i never tried war of the walkers but ive been playing with undead legacy + compopack
you should definitly try it

the encumbrance system is nothing and you will get used to it
the only "problem" is the grind you gotta put into the crafting but with the storage broadcast feature you can craft whatever you want as long as your materials are within range and because its a grind to craft something materials are alot more valuable
you will be spending your dukes often at the trader (i never bought materials from traders in vanilla)
the mod is made in such a way that the grind is worth it
theres tons of little things that it adds that make you wonder what the ♥♥♥♥ the pimps are doing with the millions they made from the game's sales

Storage broadcast sounds really good, having to pull stacks from inventory and then replace them after crafting is one of those annoyances that just doesn't feel necessary even if it is more 'believable.'

yeah that feature is the best feature of the mod IMO
just know that UL isnt ready for A20.6 yet
subquake is still working on the new update

Thats why you leave your Steam install intact, and copy everything to a second 7D2D folder for the overhaul.

And UL is no way what 7D2D should be.

You can start a new save with mods and if you want to play with your vanilla save you can simply rename the "Mods" Folder before you start the game and it will be vanilla again.

Or you do an entire copy of the installation and rename those if you switch between saves.

One thing i would highly recommend is Compopack. It adds a ton of custom POI´s to the game. And it doesn´t effect your existing saves and maps at all.
