what and how do I repair blocks

I don't understand the new way of repairing ladders and steel blocks it doesn't tell me anything

When you right click using stone axe or repair tool the needed resources show up in the bottom right with a red X over it.

You need a construction tool like a stone axe, hammer, wrech or nailgun and wood in your backpack. Go up to the block you want to repair or upgrade and right click using the secondary action key to repair or upgrade the block this includes most full sized meter blocks, doors and windows.

In the lower left part of the screen you will see resources removed or a resourse with a red x meaning you don't have a reaource need.

how do you repair things like the ground? I dug up the ground to make a trench in water and now I have lots of waves and ext on ground blocks that got damaged but didn't get destroyed

Since all blocks now require materials to repair them, a block like the ground probably can't be repaired at all since there is no material for it. Other blocks that may be like that would be sandstone and other natural blocks that wouldn't have repair mats available.

A solution to this would be to destroy the ground and it should pop out a dirt block. You can then just re-place that dirt block down.
