Hardcore mode?
Does anyone know of a way get a hardcore mode experience in 7dtd? Like say perma character death w/ or w/o losing a land claim? I love the game but i feel like there would be even more drama on a horde night if not only my character's things but my actual character were at risk.

There's no way currently in game, not even with mods, to directly manipulate save files, let alone upon player death.

The only real way is honor system. If you die, log out and delete the save, or do whatever it is you consider to create a hardcore environment.

You could try removing the file that stores the character data, that way when you continue the game you'll be at the same game-day, the map keeps it state, but you're at level 1 and need to redo the tutorial quests and stuff. Locked doors and chests at your base were still yours (so you can choose to unlock them), and I don't remember if the LandClaim block was still yours, but I figure those are small issues.

The files are stored in a folder like this (Win10):
C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\7DaysToDie\Saves\[MapName]\[GameName]\Player

Copy all the files, this way if you mess up you can try again from where you started
For each player, there are 3 files, given a random number name based on your character profile (I think):
Number.ttp and Number.ttp.bak stores your stats and stuff
Number.map just seems to show how much of the fog of war you've cleared from the map.

Delete the files (maybe leave the map file unless you want to just vaguely remember where stuff was from the first time you explored there), if you change your mind later, just copy over the backed-up files you copied earlier.

Yes, some Ironman mode that deletes your save upon death, or like Project Zomboid. I use the "honor system" mentioned above, but something built-in would be even better for my immersion.

Sure. If you die you have to uninstall the game forever. Pretty hardcore. :)

There are some mods that, upon death, remove things like all the schematics you read, your skill points, etc. Some examples:

https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/17014-khzmusiks-modlets
"Reset Skills On Death"
"No Bedrolls"

If you add enough mods like these, you can get a "mostly hardcore" game, where dying is a real penalty, but you don't lose "everything"

Then there's this mod:
https://7daystodiemods.com/resetplayerdmt-a-hardcore-mode-for-7-days-to-die/

Combine these with a "hard gameplay overhaul" mod (there are several) and its really hard without turning up the in game difficulty to turn zombies into bullet sponges.

Want to make it harder? Just add a lot of mods that make it "harder" (add a lot of items, more complex crafting, add the Snufkins or Robeletos zombies and don't load any to make it easier (bigger backpacks, more powerful weapons, slower zombies etc).

and an honorable mention: "Gnamod Horde Mode": https://community.7daystodie.com/topic/13558-gnamod
scroll down a bit to get to the "horde mode" mod
