Are the nights too bright for anyone else?
I've come back to 7d2d after many years away from it to try the 1.0 experimental. I remember night back then being so dark you could barely see without a light source. In the experimental version, I don't even notice the sun go down half the time because I can see perfectly fine.

Anyone else feel the nights are way too bright?

Yep, it's very bright.

Or shall we call it... streamer/youtuber friendly? :D

Yeah, I need to look into how to darken. Helmet lights and night vision should be necessary and they aren't.

edit: turned down the brightness.

Yeah with recent changes in experimental they made the nights brighter. prior to that (A21) buildings were actually dark and spooky and nights were darker that made using flashlights/nvgs way more viable. There is a mod(s) that do actually revert this making nights darker and interiors darker i'm pretty sure. Or u could just lower brightness ingame but that affects everything but the problem.

It is definitely brighter compared with A21. A bit too bright IMO.

worldglobal.xml is where that is set.

There are 3 settings you'd want to adjust for outdoor lighting
<property name="ambientEquatorScale" value=".7, .045"/>
<property name="ambientGroundScale" value=".3, .05"/>
<property name="ambientSkyScale" value="1, .7"/>

the second number is night, so dropping those to say .01 would darken up the nights considerably. Try adjusting those till you find something you like,

You could also put them in a modlet like so:

<set xpath="/worldglobal/environment/property[@name='ambientGroundScale']/@value">.3, .01</set>

For completeness, the ambientInside section is where you'd adjust indoor lighting.

Yes. Much too bright. Torches and headlight mods not needed.

no suprise. further dumbing down. armor plating mods where made useless. helmet lights now useless. at some point in the near future the only thing youll put on armor is pocket mods. and then theyll get rid of the armor and weapon mod systems entirely at some point. result : a boring shallow experience with no depth that quickly ends. perfect for the mainstreamer gamer. a bad game for anyone else.

night should be BLACK if there is no moon....
but for some reason, we are on another earth , that has a moon every night.

Depends on zone, and i like it. Think the base brightness is set a tad to high making the nights way brighter. Also the various settings can have a huge impact on how the light behaves for instance indoor... from you must have a light source to "yawn who need night vision googles anyway?"

Had three different plays in "V.1" barely noticed the night only the day getting brighter.

With the in-game brightness setting at 0%, outdoors night is still like a blueish overcast day with perfect visibility out to max dist. Interiors are moderately gloomy, but it's really outdoors that is silly bright.

And you're a little trigger happy on the angry confused boomer act. It's a valid topic.

It's all they've been doing lately. Dumbing the game down, making it easier and easier for no good reason, removing the actual survival elements, removing anything that's even remotely complex. It's sad, really, because at one point the game was on track to be something special.

Some nights in this game are just as bright and clear as the day. In fact when I played for a couple hours last night the game moved from day into night and there was almost zero difference in the lighting. I didn't need to use a torch or flashlight and could see almost as far as I could during the day.

Boring and shallow pretty much describes the game's systems now and the overall gameplay. The game has never looked better, the folks working on the way the game looks are generally doing a good job, but the gameplay and game mechanics just keep getting worse.

TBH there is always a moon, every night. Its always there, but due to the Earth blocking the sun, you dont always see it.

I agree, after a blood moon, it should be dark with it gradually getting brighter every night up until the new blood moon.

Wife and I revisited A16 and Night is NIGHT. With the ambient noises thrown in, it was actually scary at times. Its sad theyve moved away from that.
