Protecting Solar Banks
I've had... Spitting Birds destroy my Solar Banks and since Solar Panels are EXPENSIVE AF... i need advice on how to keep them safe.

Place your Solar Generator 15-45 blocks away, preferably on a 2nd/3rd Story wall.
That way it will be so far away your Solar Bank will no longer be in the line of fire...
Your Battery Bank should be with you (inside your Horde Base) so it can be toggled on/off.

You can stretch a wire up to 15 blocks between 2 Electric Wire Relays if you are careful.
Place Relays underground or under something else to protect those from aerial attacks...
Don't forget Cops can also spit on them, so they should also be protected from below too.

See, "Move them to a safe area" is your BEST option. :steammocking:

FYI:
Only the 2nd panel from the left needs exposure to the Sunlight for the panel to work.

2) cover with a rolling door.
a Rolling Door? What good will that do?
You'd close the (horizontal?) Door during Horde Night (it's dark, so Solar isn't Solaring).

1) move them to a safe area.

2) cover with a rolling door. As its likely horde night so let the fully charged battery bank do the job.

3) cover them with scaffolding ladders, bars, grates, etc for sacrificial protection.

4) Use shotgun turrets to destroy the birds prior to spitting on the solar.

5) Forget solar and use the Gen Set...

Yea, no kidding

does that even work?

Well... thats an idea

um... Quite, Unlimited power and ability to recharge battery generators is way more OP than Loud gad powered gens.

I'll try it out. thanks

You can also put them inside a building. They just need a "window' above to the sky. A one block hole with bars will let in light and prevent vulture spit.

thats interesting with the garage door, can make a powered one on a timer too.

Fun Fact:
* Glass (Normal or Bulletproof) isn't sufficiently transparent to sunlight to power Solar Banks.

A generator is limited in power based on number of engines and a fuel source. A solar bank is limited in power by solar cells, quality, and day light length.

They both recharge battery banks.

A Gen Set if placed safely 45 blocks away is silent too...

YMMV

Thanks for the chuckle this AM

Very True, but delivered with the panache of a certain erudite charm... :steammocking:

Scafolding ladder seems to withstand the pukes, so protect them with scafolding ladders, test first when you make a cage around the solar bank, that should work, thats what i do aniway, they cant puke thru it, they can puke thru with regular Bars or fences....but not scafolding ladders, try it out....it works for me...
Good luck

A lot of good advice in here already, let me add my 2 cents. I favor 2 types of builds - underground or mountaintop (and sometimes, underground on a mountaintop). Whichever, I always place my solar bank(s) about 15 - 20 blocks away from the entrance, usually on a steel block tower. I enclose it in steel blocks, and place steel bars over the top, with one steel hatch to give me access, then use relays to run the power to my base. The bars allow light to reach the solar cells.

For a horde base, I place it away from the entrance or where I will be standing (underground), and guard it with SMG turrets to protect against vultures. The only time I've ever had a solar bank damaged or destroyed was when it was in the open, totally unprotected on a rooftop.
