2) cover with a rolling door. As its likely horde night so let the fully charged battery bank do the job.
3) cover them with scaffolding ladders, bars, grates, etc for sacrificial protection.
4) Use shotgun turrets to destroy the birds prior to spitting on the solar.
5) Forget solar and use the Gen Set...
That way it will be so far away your Solar Bank will no longer be in the line of fire...
Your Battery Bank should be with you (inside your Horde Base) so it can be toggled on/off.
You can stretch a wire up to 15 blocks between 2 Electric Wire Relays if you are careful.
Place Relays underground or under something else to protect those from aerial attacks...
Don't forget Cops can also spit on them, so they should also be protected from below too.
See, "Move them to a safe area" is your BEST option.

FYI:
Only the 2nd panel from the left needs exposure to the Sunlight for the panel to work.
--------
You'd close the (horizontal?) Door during Horde Night (it's dark, so Solar isn't Solaring).
I'll try it out. thanks
oh, thats cool, i'll try that also
* Glass (Normal or Bulletproof) isn't sufficiently transparent to sunlight to power Solar Banks.
1) move them to a safe area. Is the same advice mate.

A generator is limited in power based on number of engines and a fuel source. A solar bank is limited in power by solar cells, quality, and day light length.
They both recharge battery banks.
A Gen Set if placed safely 45 blocks away is silent too...
YMMV
Thanks for the chuckle this AM
Very True, but delivered with the panache of a certain erudite charm...
Good luck
For a horde base, I place it away from the entrance or where I will be standing (underground), and guard it with SMG turrets to protect against vultures. The only time I've ever had a solar bank damaged or destroyed was when it was in the open, totally unprotected on a rooftop.
