AA12 for the win

At higher difficulties, I tend to go for the best damage machine gun, always. It's hard to clear
an infested room full of armored regenerating spongy zeds sprinting at you with something they consider like a peashooter.

Damage wise, yes, the Assault rifle is "better". While I prefer how the AK shoots/behaves, pure damage output wise the Assault rifle is its upgrade.

At some point, however, you get the Autoshotgun and the M60 and everything else is just for piddling around if we are honest. The M60 can bullet hose a whole horde, and the autoshotgun can clear you out from being swarmed with a quickness.

Yes, it does, although depending on difficulty it may not matter.

Not only is the damage higher but the rate of fire is higher as well. It does reload more slowly but the overall DPS is still significantly higher. I generally prefer a higher burst damage, and with a drum magazine a TAR can clear most encounters without reloading. It is only really the large hordes in a T6 where reloading matters and by then you should have the M60.

The mod slots can also be important. The AK has 2,2,2,3,3,4 (depending on QL) and the TAR has (3,3,3,4,4,4).

Lastly, not that it matters very often but the TAR also has a longer effective range. The max range is the same but the point at which damage starts to fall off is 49m for the TAR and 41m for the AK. Again, that rarely matters though since most combat is less than that anyway.

M60. :lunar2019grinningpig:

Rifle is great if you can one-shot stuff with headshots so depending on difficulty. Thing is, it you got a horde or any "oh ♥♥♥♥" moments you need something to downrange freedom seeds in a hurry and machine guns just flat out win that fight. With a little care you can even "snipe" at some level of distance with a machine gun and ironically the assassin armor is so effing broken at max level that you can do POIs and not alert other zombies WHILE USING A M60. That'll prolly get fixed tho. Heh.

It really depends on your play style. The end-game sniper rifle can hold quite a few rounds, and that’s more than adequate for getting me out of tough situations when questing. Especially with a silencer, I can kill most enemies before they even know what happened.

Basically, when you unlock a new weapon in the same class of weapons, you should always switch over. The only reason not to is if the tier 1 new weapon has less mod slots than the old one and those mods are important for you in some way. Otherwise the new weapon is almost always a direct upgrade. The only exceptions are bows/crossbows and the pistols because of ammo type changes. A standard 9mm pistol can be worth keeping alongside the.44 just to keep using the older ammo type. Bows/crossbows are the same, ammo is different as well as how they fire and you might prefer how a crossbow fires and keep it even if you get the higher tier bow.

The AK, for my game play always shows before the tactical. So first, AK, then in time the tactical.

I usually go from AK-47 straight to the M60. Never crafted the other assault rifle.

just throw a full auto mod on the AR

I routinely carry on my belt -

1- M60 - for panic time.
2 - Sniper rifle - for ammo efficiency, with rang extender
3 - baseball bat with fire plus barbed wire plus any other damage mods
4 - composite crossbow for stealth

other than that I have in the past used a .44 with silencer for the stealth slot and I suppose an SMG for low end groups like dogs.

"freedom seeds." That made me giggle. If I'm going machine guns, then yeah the TAR is my preference. The M60 may have that huge mag, but that reload is an eternity when you've got zeds rushing you down. The TAR reloads more often but it's so quick by comparison you basically don't have any downtime when you're built for it.

All else being (relatively) equal, I'd prefer the smaller windows of vulnerability from the shorter reload time.

I feel like the tac AR has one less mod slot since i always put an auto trigger in it.

They'd have to make scarier zombies.
