Iron gut cost
I feel like Iron Gut perk should've been reduced to 3 levels instead of 5, just like some other quality-of-life perks did.

I'm trying to focus my build on fortitude in my current playthrough so I have enough fortitude to level up Iron Gut but it doesn't really feel worth it. I'm basically spending 1 skill point to get 10% longer buffs and 5% less food/water consumption, which is nice and I would like to have these improvements but it's not worth 1 skill point per level.

It's especially annoying since buff duration increase synergizes so well with the whole fortitude tree: I use fists as my main weapon, grow hop, use hop to produce beer and have this beer last longer with the power of Iron Gut. Or I would if it wasn't so expensive.

Yeah I was also hoping they would make (imo) useless perks shine in A19 but this perk for example is still a letdown when you could instead have been investing into combat, mining & smithing perks.

I agree, considering how many other things there are to spend skill points on and how much food and drink items i've been able to stockpile with little effort, I really don't see much point in spending points in Iron Gut to be honest.

They're trying to force Iron Gut as a viable choice with the increased food/drink loss added to this version, I guess. Rather than make the perk actually useful to take, let's force it on players by changing mechanics. I've been around since A12, and it seems like they've done it in every update I've seen. Every new version, the Pimps try to remove or lessen the ease of collecting food and drink in the late game, which only exacerbates the problem early to mid game. At this point, I'm seriously like, "Just ♥♥♥♥ it already, and move on to fixing more important things." I mean, I understand balance, but I feel like the food/drink issue was balanced enough for some time now. It's always going to be a struggle at first, and it's always going to be too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ easy by end game, so stop ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the food and drink!

Wait, food/drink loss was increased this version? But why would they increase wellness gain at the same time? It's day 11 or so on my save and I've got 132 HP.

Your hp only increases based on your character level

Yeah, they removed wellness tied to HP gains in A17 or A18; I think it was A18, but I've played so many alphas, I can't quite recall exactly. There's no real point to preference eating one food over another, apart from how much fullness you need and the potential for dysentery.

In A19 you get stamina boost after eating cooked food and it also no longer has a dysentery chance, so now canned goods are actually inferior to proper food in terms of lacking stamina buff.
