What skills to get first for beginner?
title:
Before i put points into specific weapons, i wanna see what weapon works for me, thinking guns lol

Also, i've done the 8 starter quests for my 4 skill points, made it to a trader. Is the rest what ever i want to do? in a nut shell anyway?

Thanks :)

Honestly? Your going to find out it's all in how you want to play. I ALWAYS put my first point into Animal Tracker. I never put more than 1 point. then I go for gunslinger and machine gun. Then physician. (1 point). Then 1 point so I can build my workbench.

Animal Tracker works great. IF you scan for small animals, you can bring up your map and it will show any small animals in the area. Saves searching. :)

The pipe guns guarantee I get them. And physician will allow me to make all the first aid bandages I need.

After that, It's all up to what I want to do. :) This time, I got the guns for hunting, but I'm going to go full stun baton. :) I sure hope it's worth it. But, if it doesn't just a swig of Granpa's Forgetten elixer and I can reallocate my points I had to spend at the beginning. (such as points to clubs in the beginning. )

Ramar gives good advice. Personally for me, I always spec my first 4 points into the following: Sexual Tyrannosaurus for the added stamina regen, Master Chef for the ability to make Bacon and Eggs, and then the other 2 points into the offensive perks that meld with the build I’m aiming for. If I was thinking Strength build for example, I would put those 2 points into Pummel Pete, and then Shotguns. Again however, it’s up to you friend. Play the game, and learn as you play. Nothing beats experience :)

Depends on your play style.

Hunter > Tracker/yield perks (Endurance)
Scavenger > Loot yield (Perception)
Raider > Stamina (Strength)
Builder > Barter/harvest yield (Intelligence/Strength)

Get Agility perks for increased mobility (i.e. Parkour)

Iron Gut, Sexual T Rex, Cardio and myriad of other survival perks. try to reduce your "survival" costs, it will save you many headaches later on if RNG is killing any aspect for your playthrough.

i can't stress enough to keep an open mind and assign perks as you NEED them during the first week or two. you'll thank yourself later when/if you get cornered and overrun inside a poi. running out of stamina is a death sentence in this game. be as flexible as possible, i was rocking Q1 gear for most of the first week with the exception of the higher quality pieces of gear/weapons i managed to loot.

combat is NOT your staple for survival, reducing hunger, thirst and stamina costs is very important. especially as a new player, after a few restarts (i promise there will be at least 3 of them for you lol) you'll start to see the pattern you want to take through skills, leave it open ended so you can throw points in where needed.

You guys are serious with this animal tracker? Dozens of rabbits/chickens running around, 10+ new farm POIs, super easy to craft pipe weapons...
Animal tracker :)

I would advice to watch this: https://youtu.be/P03VW5o6f88

Guy actually knows what he is talking about.
(also consider starting already on experimental)

Do not put more than 2 points on Pack mule, you can mod your armor with pockets to give you the rest of your inventory.

Nice one. That was what I was thinking about when I read the thread. :) Just hold out. If you don't find pocket mods, you can buy them CHEAP from a trader or make them later as you apply points to the perk.

My first points go into chef for the recipes, T-rex for the stamina regen, Engineering for an early forge and salvage so I can make a wrench.
I just build a storage and workshop shack on stilts across from the first trader. It's best to build your horde base separate from your storage. Don't want them destroying chests full of loot n stuff. If I don't feel like building my horde base yet I just convert any old poi for the first horde night (It doesn't take much to withstand the day 7 horde). My horde base is usually within sight of my storage base so I can get to mats quickly, but far enough away that a horde spawning from the wrong direction won't run them through my storage base.

Sexy rex and Miner 69

Good for breaking into places, good for making places, good for buried quests.

1 point in daring adventurer is never bad, if you plan to do quests. 1 point in charismatic nature is good if playing with a friend that'll do the same.

Strength First 🤓 put 2 points in strength than 2 points in miner. Before finishing quest 1 put one point in daring adventurer. Afterwards 1 point in t-trex. You can then use the club well until you know which weapon to go. Build your own fortification gives you tons of XP.

my standard is the first level and the free points bring all stats to 2 then take the first rank in S Rex, iron gut, cardio, basically if it increase stamina regen or reduces hunger thirst and or stamina usage I would recommend it.

Well, you'll probably play around with several weapons, so my recommendation is to actually not invest in ANY weapon skills immediately, unless you want to craft them. Focus on gathering and survival skills first. You can use weapons decently even with no skills invested. You can also get the first level in any skill without putting any investment into stats, so you can try out a few things, and it's rare that this is a terrible idea.

Some good skills to consider are:
-Sexual Tyrannosaurus: Good with basically any build. It will make your melee attacks and mining/gathering far more sustainable.
-Miner 69er: You'll be gathering materials, whether you focus on strength or not.
-Master Chef: The first level teaches you the basic Grilled Meat food, which is a staple food in a lot of cases.
-Animal Tracking: Very good for finding basic animals to hunt for food. You can have a very hard time spotting rabbits in particular without this skill.
-Living off the Land: Gives you twice as much out of plants you gather from. Very useful, especially if you travel to something like the desert biome to gather yucca and aloe, or for chrysanthemum and cotton early on.
