Lag in Solo Game
Can someone please explain how if I am playing solo on my own pc connected to internet. How can I have lag in a game that I have all resources local.? I am confident that in solo mode with no server, I should run very smoothly and with absolutely zero lag running from my 127.0.0.1 ip. Any comments are greatly appreciated. KQ7

lets start with specs on your computer

It's framerate issues, they need to do a hotfix. My solo and MP games have been smooth for as long as I can remember but with 8.7, there is definitely some lag/framerate issues.

then lets proceed to how its an unfinished not fully optimized prototype still in its alpha stage of development.

from what i have seen as long as you have at least 3gb of ram a 2.5 processor and a 1gb video card you want have to much lag usaully runs at 25 fps on high setting low you might get 30 fps settings seem to not change lag at all hardly.

I run at 30-40 FPS, and every once in a while I'll get a tiny hiccup..... Perhaps when they get to the optimisation part of development, things like that will go away..... I'm not worried :) And it doesn't effect my gameplay

I will try tweaking the game down. And yes I did start a new game but I noticed this after 8.7 patch only I have a good 8.6 core backup. I try playing 8.6 with old save backup and see if it is this new patch. thanks for the tips.

My computer struggles with this game, what is weird because I can play Skyrim, Just Cause 2 and other sandboxes even bigger than this game. Why is it SO slow? I minimized all the settings, too.

It's still in ALPHA, it hasnt been optimized yet

Its the zombie hordes that cause the most lag. Especially when they are agro and digging at something. Haven't tweeked with the actual zombie count, but reducing the max zombies that can spawn could help, but also make areas really desolate too.

Lighting effects also effect the frame rate. I get a steady 60 FPS, yet if I have two forges and a camp fire going, it drops down to 30 FPS.

I just had some lag in my SP too about 3 or 4 times but nothing till now wonder if its the server that keeps you in check.

That would probably be the game periodically autosaving for you.
The only server involved in an SP game is when you start the game.

Again.

Say it with me: "This is an alpha test stage game and no amount of tweaking or hardware upgrades will guarantee that i will have a 'lag' free experience."

The only time my old PC that is used as server lags is when 30+ zombies are ON SCREEN.

They can be doing whatever they want and not lag until I see them it's lag spike each 10-15 seconds. Until 30 or less zombies are on screen.

But IDK if it's more demanding on CPU or graphic the zombies walking....

Edit: Also my pc that is hosting has 4 gig of ram, AMD 6850 and a big i5 and can run a server with 7 people and 30 or less zombie smoothly

Go to the NVIDIA control panel . click Manage 3D settings, Add this game to your list of programs, the make sure you select your NVIDIA processor. once done the game will always use your card... i had same issue after update of game once i did this i have had no problems.. Seemed that the game was using my integrated chipset instead of my NVIDIA!!! hope it helps
