4 ingots ->16 (4*4) forged iron -> 48 (16*3) iron pipes -> 240 (48*5) strips
each strip gives you 10 durability, so from 4 ingots you get 2400 durability? meaning its almost five times better to just repair your tools?
Just wanted to offer a different viewpoint on repairing the stone axe. Even though it only takes one stone to make a stone axe you also have to craft it into a sharp stone and craft a plant fiber from grass. The whole process takes a lot longer and is a bigger hastle than sticking your stack of small stones next to your worn stone axe and hitting craft. Even though it uses more stone the process is faster and simpler and worth it in my opinion. Small stones are abundant.
Same is true of repairing the crossbow. Uses more sticks but it is easy and fast.
In short -
Iron - Repair at 250
Stone - do whatever fits your fancy
My tendency to already be carrying handfulls of fibre at all time and ease of getting a stick I never gave much thought to the extra time of handling the craft materials. I reckon it is also nice to ensure you always have that 100% damage instead of dumping item early or wasting time with the degraded ones reduced damage.
