Has anyone done the mining nuggets and diamonds challenge?

I decided to do it. I have mined more than 2,000,000 ore and I haven't done it yet.

My entire base is steel, I have a thousand more steel cooking for no reason, I have ~50,000 melted iron in forges, I have a steel chest full of iron and I currently have >7000 real world minutes of gunpowder production on the go just as a way to use up some of the spare nitrate and coal. And every workstation is powered by coal to use up some more. And I have ~10,000 bullet tips cooking to use up some of the spare lead. And I've sold hundreds of thousands of units of various resources to traders, partly to get some rid of some more resources and partly to buy tens of thousands of units of fuel so I don't have to mine a vast amount of shale and build more chemistry stations to make enough fuel quickly enough to fuel my auger. I'm burning maybe 10,000 fuel per day to fuel my auger.

I've even had to restart forged iron production to make repair kits for the auger.

I just mined for 48 game hours straight.

It seems a very silly challenge. There's no way anyone would get anywhere near it in a normal playthrough and the only reason I'm still doing it is stubborness. I've started so I'll finish.

EDIT: Wait, I missed something. I have 2 steel chests full of iron. I'd overlooked the other one as I haven't opened it for days.

I'm rapidly closing in on this being my only Challenge Left, and this just makes me Sad...


I think "someone" owes me a Cookie (or a nice Pat on the Head)...

How about just cookie crumbs in your hair?

For the challenge... I can barely do the honey/stump challenge.

Maybe, if I ever get to game day 1000, I might get there. But I usually die somewhere around day 70.

The amount you have to have of each one isn't that huge, right? Something like 50ish-100? Is it fixed or is there more than one 'stage'? I haven't looked in a while.

At any rate... yikes, that sounds horrendous, lol.
I'd just be tossing the excess ore on the ground, probably.

It's "only" 50 each of Silver, Gold, 'n Diamonds.
Defeating the RNG Boss is the hard part...

Since I haven't done any bigger projects (or think about achivements) I haven't done much mining overall for a long time. The last time I did .. my memory says maybe I got several silver, one or two gold, one gem over a few hours or something.

I'd probably use the T6 pickaxe, too - no fuel concerns then at least. Just stamina.

It's 50 of each, but that means that the one that matters is the one you get least of. I think I have ~130 silver nuggets now. But not enough gold or diamonds. Nearly, but not there yet. I think I'm on 45 gold and 45 diamonds.

What's huge isn't the amount of nuggets and diamonds you need. It's the amount you need to mine to get 50 of each.

At any rate... yikes, that sounds horrendous, lol.

I'm a loot goblin gamer. Throwing loot away (however I get it) doesn't sit right with me. Even if I don't need it.

EDIT: I'm playing the Preppocalypse mod. I don't think that changes the drop rate of nuggets and gems while mining, but maybe it does.

Wow that's interesting. I knew it would take forever but, that's pretty crazy how much you mined. Lol

I've barely even mined in the last year of playing because I got sick of Base building.

Clearly that number of precious stones was arbitrary when they picked it. And clearly the person who picked it does not play the game or know the drop rate on diamonds and such. Or, they are nuts

I hope you listen to some good podcasts or TV shows while you mine, because that sounds boring as hell. Lol

Think my best roll for luck in finding the book, and then mining got me about 25 diamonds by Day 56 so far. And that was on a 90 minute day just going about my bidness.

With 1000's of hours in the game I'd actually hit this achievement long before I'd clear that nutty medical achievement tree. I'm supposed to be an idiot how many times?

Well, I finally mined enough to complete the entire gatherer challenge and I found out two things;

i) If your mine is big enough you can avoid screamers because they get too lost to find you. Towards the end of mining I could sometimes hear them wandering around, wailing quietly to themselves. Never saw them and they never saw me.

ii) The reward for this ludicrous challenge is 10,000 XP, which is irrelevant by this stage of the game. The reward for completing the entire gathering set of challenges is a choice of reading material. Some options are 2 skill magazines, some options are a single schematic and some options are a single perk book. Of course, by this stage of the game you'll probably have them all already. I chose 2 skill magazines for a rifles, a skill I'd never used and had no points in because it was either that, the same for bows, pairs of skill magazines I'd already read and could only sell for 40 dukes or a schematic I'd already read and could sell for 184 dukes.
