Navezgane or Random Gen?
Navezgane or Random Gen Map?
I have played this game on and off since it first released in Early Access nearly 10 years ago, but I have not played since Alpha 20.
I explored Navezgane plenty before, and done several Random Gen maps.

In 1.1 should I explore the Navezgane again, or go for Random Gen map?

I am unsure if anything drastic has changed since the full release.

You can also get POIs in different biomes which creates a very different experience. The traders are also duplicated and there can be up to 4 of each on the map, instead of just one.

Additionally traders are usually placed on the edge of towns and cities in RWG maps which can mean less travel to get to POI, whereas in Navezgane they are pretty much out in the wilderness.

If you like playing in towns and cities, the bigger cities in a RWG dwarf anything in Navezgane.

Lastly, it is very easy to mod the rwgmixer.xml file to customize your map even more while Navezgane is a pre-built map.

Random gen can have much bigger and greater number of cities, so you might want to keep that in mind.

Can you tell me how Random Gen is better? Have they improved it?
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I definitely prefer random gen. I haven't loaded up Navezgane since A17.

If it would be the first playtrough i would still and will always recommend navezgane, simply due to 3 things:
Some awesome and unique POIs
Slower Progression
only static map (with most POIs just one time, which feels more realistic)

But as you already played it, there is not that much new, esp. almost nothing exclusive to navezgane.
In general i would say that another playtrough of navezgane for those who already played it during the last 5 years should wate till the story update (expecting that the story will be in navezgane).

So i agree with the others, play random gen.
But i strongly recommend to check the guide section and/or mods to optimize the random world generation.

I think PainWeasel covered it, basically.

imo, Navz has more "artistic charm" with its hand placed mini towns and water features here and there (last I looked) and a unique feel, but is more limited for replay value/exploration.

RWG is much more flexible re: tons of POI's/exploration (if you want it), even if feels like it all repeats in every town/city. If you're into fiddling with that rwgmixer file, with only that you can create some pretty decent 5k-8k maps. In the end they are all going to still feel rather "samey" over time tho.

If you don't mind user-created maps, you could try something completely different. Some people have created pretty interesting maps.

Or if you really like Navz, someone made a revamped larger/"improved" version of it. I haven't tried it but maybe it's a good compromise of sorts.

I just wanted to say that I did finally try that "improved/larger" Nav. mod-map, and it's pretty great. Much better, imo, than the default Nav. map. Keeps the artistic charm but combines it with the larger city options in the corners you can work your way towards etc.

For someone like me who is a no-loot-respawn/no Trader Quest/roamer/exploer, it's a fun ride. I have tried a few other modded-maps before and didn't like them overmuch personally, but this was is nice combo. Of course, like any map, I doubt I'd care to play it more than once or twice, but it's one I'd likely stick with for quite some time.

That said it might not be for those who like to mostly hunker down and never leave a half mile radius in some big city. Or those who like to do endless T. quests and don't like travel distances. Can't say for sure, since I don't play that way. :)

Neither, user-created maps are better. They also usually have a lot of additional user-created POIs.

NavZ.

I can say lot of bad things about devs work, but map design isnt one of them.
Handcrafted map just feels different. POIs placement makes much more sense, terrain looks better, everything just fits well together. After most big updates, the thing that kept me playing was improvements of NavZ map (cause lets be real, removed or dumbed down features was not it).

The only negative is that it doesnt have all the new POIs, so i played lotta randoms too to explore new ones, but i always return to NavZ in the end.

That handmade terrain just feels so much better.

Random gen, totally.

The premade map is fixed. You know exactly where to go to get the best chance of getting certain things. It gets boring pretty fast. Even If you don't want to exploit that, sometimes you're forced to... a single location might be the only real place to get certain drops.

Random gen mixes things up at least. One town can be a dud, with nothing really worth looting... but the next town over can just be an endless jackpot of loot.

If you want a "true" gameplay survival like must to go xyz to loot special prefabs, choose Navezgane... Note that this map is a little more realistic & have some prefabs who are not used in random gen...

Random Gen is not really realistic, you will find nearly all prefabs in each city...

But anyway, you play both...

It's been updated several times over the years, inclding the 1.0 traders biome assignment thing, but I think it is missing a few of the T5 POI's last I knew. I do not know specirfics.
