I can't find water
I'm looking for water on my map for over 2 hours now but can't find anything. Where is water usually?.

Water towers, the small ponds along the gravel roads off the top of my head. And the cities (the wasteland-type, one is always at 0,0) seem to have loads of ponds.

Some prefabs have swimming pools in the backyards. Also check the toilets for bottles of murky water.

You can also use snow to create water ;)

I experienced a similar issue. It took me over ten hours to find a sustainable water source. Finally I wound up at a huge river system that led into an ocean. Pretty nice find after all that waiting.

Same here. The only place where I could find water is in a city in some ponds.
Not the prettiest place to set up a base.

Hopefuly they will improve the random terrain generator in the future.

I've also had a really hard time finding water after finding out that rivers are gone, and you can't fill jars from toilets anymore. I spent two in-game days searching and finally found a few tiny puddles. I filled up a bucket and brought it back to my base, dumped it into a well I made, used a stack of jars on it and *poof* it disappeared. Not only did they remove 99.999% of the water from the game, but they made it so that it is consumed by jars. I think they were just trying to make it more scarce, but damn that's a bit ridiculous.

I don't know if it's an exploit, but I found that you can get infinite water. I can't remember the steps exactly, but I believe that if you put two water sources next to each other with buckets, then fill the bucket from one of them, it doesn't go away. So you could fill your bucket, then fill your jars, then put the water back. It's tedious and maybe cheap, but I can't spend every day looking for water because a) it's not fun and b) there are other dangers to worry about like, oh I dunno, zombies?

For something to drink, you can collect yucca plants in the desert. You have a recipe for yucca juice using a glass bottle. It provides a drink that cools you and restores some stamina.

If you create a large box using the wood blocks, you can pour a bucket of water into the box. Then scoop up the water into buckets. I was trying to see if irrigating some fertile soil helped my plants and poured out 2 buckets. It went over the edges so I scooped up all the water getting 6 buckets. I don't know how far this exploit will go but it has potential right now.

Water in random gen is a bit weird atm - the maps I have seen all seem to have pretty much no water until you get near the edges of them (a looong way from 0.0), and then some of them have so much it is more like a sea than a lake. So, if you want to set up your base near a large body of water, you're probably going to be quite a distance from the hub city. Or else really lucky...

I can't find water too. Cannot survive. Anyone can post how puddle looks/sign show in the map?
SmallArchangel Jan 28, 2016 @ 3:54am
@Freshmeat: Basically, water will always show up as blue on the map, so look for that. Puddles are pretty small and not easy to see unless you are zoomed in on the map, but will always be on a gravel path as they spawn as a wilderness POI.

Also look for swimming pools in towns, ponds in cities, and gather snow to melt down in frozen biomes, as others have said. I usually find enough water in cabinets in random prefabs and towns to keep me going without having to even bother purifying any, unless needed for other recipes.

Blue.

Early game though, you're better off just looting everything you find (preferrably in small towns), you should be able to get enough jars of water to get you through until you find an actual water source.

Isn't it possible just to build your own water source like in minecraft?
Ketobi Jan 28, 2016 @ 4:36am
Sure just take a bucket and get some.
But somehow that doesn't make sense...
Why would you take a bucket when you can fill your jars right there?
It is just more work.

*get water*
*fill jars*
*get water again*
*fill jars*
...

If you mean a magical water well that never runs dry... nope.

The trick is to keep a bucket next to your water well. When you create your water well and then fetch water from an existing source to fill with using a bucket, keep the bucket after you fill your self made water well. Take a stack of empty bottles dip them into the well to fill them. About the 2nd time you do this you will see the water in that section of the well disappear. If you made the well large enough, take your empty bucket and scoop water from the side of the well that still has water and then dump it back into the well. It is tedious and manual but this will "in effect" provide you with the never ending water well you are used to making in Minecraft.
