How does loot respawn work, exactly?
Are containers refilled, or a new containers spawning?

I destroyed a loot of garbage bags so far, should it stop that?

Will new broken cars spawn?

-------------------------------

I really love to incite flame war on the internet, but could you all please distinguish between the container respawning and the contents of the container respawning? Those are very different things, and I asked about the difference specifically.

Some containers do in fact spawn in the game, like weathered backpacks and emergency supplies.

Refilled, but it will not respawn if you let something inside..

If you destroy, then no respawn..

Cars as far as i know do not respawn

Hmm. So springs will go extinct eventually?

Completely wrong but i love it when people think that ;)
More loot for me :)

Container respawn their loot if theres something in it or not. You just need to remove the content to see the respawn.
(Search the container, take the trash out, search again for valuables)

Cars respawn their loot as long as they are still lootable.

Destroyed containers are destroyed, i don't get the question...

@Senf
If they are not craftable on the server you are on they will eventually run out. Like so much other stuff. Some resources are limited .

Nop, because spring can spawn under a car (looting, not destroying)
Even so, you have to "destroy" thousands of cars, maybe more..

Completely wrong ? Not completely, if you have to remove the trash to respawn anything.. (i know its instantly)

About cars, he is talking about recylcing it, so no, it dont respawn.

I hate people who loves to say "You are wrong"..

As far as I know, loot respawns after X days, X being set in the game options, unless some player passes *near* the container, then the respawn counter is reset (to zero - not sure about that info would be welcome)
I wonder if there is a possibility to turn off this resetting, that is annoying, especially on well populated servers - crates etc never respawn as there is always someone 'near' and the counter reset. Is there a way to mod this resetting out ?

Like JayZhee said, the loot respawns after X days. If you remove the stuff or not. If not, the loot is just not visible so the statement "Refilled, but it will not respawn if you let something inside.." is wrong or at least misleading.

Like i said, a destroyed container is destroyed so a car will not respawn but its loot will.

You mean brass. And yes, zombies do drop it, so it's essentially infinite. Sometimes seems like they all carry doorknobs. :)

*edit: wait, maybe that's why they go foor the doors so much, they just after the knobs! :P

I can be wrong, but on my 1day loot respawn server..
it DONT respawn if you left something in it, you cant trash things and it should respawn instantly, but you cant wait 1000days, if something is on the container, it wont respawn..
Besides, lots of people uses prefabs containers, and i dont see anyone complaing about loot missing, or respawing into something else..

If you loot a container, place an item inside...and wait the respawn time...say 30 days...the container will still have your item you placed in it.

However if you remove it the container will instantly respawn because its past the 30 day timer.

Not sure if it still does, but being around the container would reset the timer so if it was a container in your base, it'd probably never respawn unless you left for 30 days.
