Took me a while, and lots of headshots, but worked.
Of course, I got hit a few times. And maybe in higher difficulties that would make you very dead instead of wounded...
Anyways, I'm still wondering how the hell a enormous bear sneaked behind me.
It keeps your stamina up while attacking or even while running. You can fight forever with both of those items...
IF YOU DONT HAVE STAMINA BOOSTING DRINKS: Fire of 2-3 shots then run untill bear drops aggro. They drop aggro pretty fast. Crouch and wait for your stamina to be replenished. Repeat.
NEVER let the bear get close enough to melee you. You are toast then.
If you have spikes put some on the ground and run around or jump over them to get the bear to run into them.
Also I think spike and run attacks are an exploit so I don't use it.
If you look at the xmls you will see for how long they chase you. The chase is always time limited or you would not survive your first encounter with anything. Attacking the entity chasing you resets the chase timer.
Exploit is when you use something (mostly a bug) in a way that it wasn't supposed to be used in order to benefit you in a by the developers not intended way. Spikes are used so that mindless beasts should step on them. If they were supposed to bea aware of them and avoid them there would be no use of the spikes. So it's a technique, not an exploit. IMHO.
If you don't want to use that technique then the answer to your question "how do i kill bears in survival dificulty" is: Avoid them, level up, get a good weapon, kill.
Hm, in my game I've noticed the bears actually lose aggro even if I keep shooting them (until I shoot it again after that). Obviously a bug, but just thought I'd point it out.
Zombie-bears don't, regulars do.
True. Hadn't read the zombieBear part and i see now they don't have "param2" which is the "give up time". I've only met about 3 zombiebears and was already geared up so didn't have to run and never noticed they lacked a "give up time".
good point! I'll also try to use the spikes for killing a bear.
Thats what I do but with a Xbow.. But I will also try and get on top of one of those large stone baulders. If I can get on top of one of those.. I just sneak attack the bear for the extra damage while it is attacking the baulder :)
I don't even both with melee since normaly 1-2 hits from the bear and your stun locked then dead 1-2 hits later
