@ Rise,

I never though about snow covered mines before. I bet that is why they moved the military camp to that biome exclusively. It's really easy to collect all the mines when it is in any other biome.

I would never build on the snow though, always dig down to stone for SI sake As well as to avoid undermining. With a POI you have no choice, but you can start by digging out just the corners and shoring it up, you get a basement out of the deal if you go the full mile and dig out what is under the floors. Just make sue to shore it up as you go so it doesn't drop in the hole on top of you ;)

Yeah so what I've been doing is as the hordes come through and dig out a bunch underneath my cabin base I then use the space to build another underground room out of it... so basically I'm using the zeds as cheap labour :-)

You _used_ to hear any approaching lumberjack, no more sneaking zombies. When sounds are fixed this will be a thing again.
When snowzombie gets loot table 66 instead of 21 they will again become tool piniatas. No need to spend nights after nights crafting stone axes, just skill up scaveging.

At the moment though, well... no dogs. and INSANELY bright nights. Couple that with the totally broken zombie spawning and when you find a town in the snow you can do whatever in the middle of the night and see (not hear) any zombie (and animal) mucking about giving you free reign to loot the place by both day & night.

Military camps, well... not that good day 1, probably good past day 30-ish when you leveled up enough to consistently get 600 qual weapon parts. You really don't need to live in the snow for that.

Blizzard? Cold? Doesn't matter, not an issue after you've gone through your first high-rise or a handful small houses. Snow ain't that challenging, sure it kinda sucks the first day & night when spawning there but if you survive THAT, you'll survive in the snow, forever.

Is your Tone Mapping set to Bright?

Nope, set to off.

Edit: Played around a bit. You'll get a headace with anything but "off". Dark is okay until you see the sunset or a street lamp or spotlight, then the contrast difference will start hurting your eyes. -it's still just as bloody bright in the night
Anything but dark is asking for trouble. using "vibrant" or god forbid "bright" during the day will give you a seizure, that's how bright the biome is.
So keep it at "off" if you value your enjoyment and if you are living in a snow biome.

I have a base in the snow on a pvp server, my base is a converted wildman log cabin...

Pros:
1. Low chance of other players stumbling across your base (No one has found me in 200 game days and I am not even that far away from the hub city)
2. Plenty of snow to make water
3. So many tree stumps packed with good loot and its very easy to spot duffel bags and backpacks etc
4. Only Lumberjack zeds spawn there at the moment, they are tough but easy to outrun
5. All you need is a puffer jacket, boots and beanie and your good to go all the time (no mucking about with clothing)
6. Mines, spikes and barbed wire fence are covered with snow most of the time making them very difficult to see and very dangerous to raiders/griefers...
7. Chance of military base POI although I have not found one in my snow biome yet, but it is a massive biome
8. Snow is soft and easy to dig spike hole traps and tunnels
9. No dogs (cept for hordes of ofc)
10. At the moment its completly flat so you can cover a lot of ground very quickly if you have a couple of coffees/beers
11. Bright nights with high visibility

Cons:
1. Due to the snow being soft, zombie hordes do a LOT of damage to the area around your base AND tunnel quickly underneath your base making a huge mess to clean up

So as you can see there are a lot of benefits, it is difficult to get started in the snow but once you are set up it's totally worth it and it's actually really nice living in the snow.

I would recommend starting in a different biome until you find a puffer jacket and beanie then heading in to the snow to build.

This is AMAZING. Day-after-day, week-after-week, people come in here and whine and whine and whine about game mechanics, crafting, biomes, lack of skill books, schematics, etc., etc., etc. and how this or that feature makes the game 'unplayable' and TFP are practically 'incomptent gaming nazi's' who ruining the game.

Here is someone who, instead crying about the adversity of the snow biome (which is a tough biome in which to base), has embraced its postivies, minimized its negatives and is using it to his advantage.

That is what 'survival gaming' is all about. Not getting an easy ticket so everything is done by Day 14 like some people who constantly troll this game want. Not whining about adversity and rage-quitting on the forums. But playing to the strengths and dealing with, like an adult, the down-sides.

Thanks, yes thats it I love the game. No it's not perfect by any means but it isn't supposed to be yet. TFP will not be able to make everyone happy with the changes they make but overall I think they do an awesome job and have got a lot of things right. People need to consider how difficult and complicated some of the mechanics of the game are and how damn smart these guys are to be able to code it and have it working even to the state that it is.

I've played a lot of games in my day but 7D2D is by far one of my favourites and will continue to be for a very long time.

Snow zombies were SUPPOSED to drop high quality loot but someone forgot to assign them the loot list #66 which was prepared for them. =)
