Opinions on the Drone and robotic turrets?
Thinking of using intelligence for a change but I just don't know how helpful toting around a mini turret is going to be and if the drone is actually worth using.

I know it can carry things for you but as far as I know it can't fight and I doubt it can keep up with a car which means it probably isn't worth it but since I've never used it I figured I'd ask if anyone has and has an opinion on it.

Yeah, I use the drone, a lot early and mid game, it has needed storage, it talks to you, tells you when enemies are close, it has options when you hold "e" on it, it has slots for mods, one for healing you (not sure if working right now but maybe), mod to add more storage, drone light, drone armour.
The turret I dont use so much, I have too many hours in game so not really needed, but a lot of players use them and they are fun and can be used at the right place to maybe save your life.

Personally think robotic turrets and drones are worth using. Turrets require some learning how to use them effectively and drone can be utter pain in the arse, but also turrets can really help you out when things go sideways and besides extra carry capacity drone can also have stamina regeneration boost and automatic healing mods which can help a lot.
Drones are really nice if you get the cargo mod, the cargo mods can also stack as well! The drone also just teleports to you, although i've had issues in the past where, if you die, the drone can't leave the POI. If you're on a vehicle it will follow without issues.

You can give the drone a healing mod and put some medkits in it's inventory, and it will heal you when sufficiently injured. There's a morale boost to give you slight stamina regen too.

I don't use the other robotic items, but the sledge is nice to ragdoll enemies when deployed. You can give it mods too to increase damage (Does it get damage/effect buffs when deployed?)

Drone is extremely helpful with the cargo mods, so I wouldn't bother making one until you have the schematic for that. It follows you around quite well AFAIK. I think I've only had maybe one or two situations where it gets hung up somewhere and I have to pick it up and reset it.

Turrets are really good too, but you've got to have a large source of lead to make AP rounds for them, which is where they really shine in late game situations.

The turrets are very interesting for alternativ horde base Bulding and generl base defense.

The drons are also fully worth esp. due to the storage space, but i don't use them. I think they don't fit into the game (subjectiv).

The turrets are amazing. Don't overlook the sledgehammer ones too. I just raided the high school POI, and got to the loot room which is the basketball gymnasium. I had two sledgehammers blocking the doorway, and they brought a whole charge of over 8+ zombies to a complete halt, just punching them back over and over. Only one got past (irradiated super zombies) and I meleed him down with the stun baton, then shot the rest.

And all of that with NO ammo usage on the sledgehammers.

EDIT: Sledgehammers are awesome for horde nights too. I currently have a sledgehammer I place at the top of some stairs. Zombies run up, get punched in the face and launched all the way to the base of the stairs... where I have second sledgehammer that punches them repeatedly when they stand up. Both sledgehammers have the burning shaft mod, so they're setting the zombies on fire too.

A pair of shooting robot turrets can be LETHAL. They automatically aim for the head. And with the massive increases to head damage from INT attribute, they can start popping heads off like zits. They do use up a LOT of ammo though. And the ammo is made from scrap iron, so that starts to compete with iron/steel ingot production.

I usually set them up so that one points towards the location the zombies will charge from, and then the second is perpendicular usually in a side hallway. The second will only fire if they enter it's view. Otherwise both turrets will shoot the same target simultaneously, and waste a bunch of ammo. A pair of high level turrets, with mods like full auto trigger, longer barrel, and drum magazines will just utterly annihilate entire charges of even super high level enemies (irradiated, super mutants, zombie bears, etc).

I like the drone as storage far than using a vehicle for traveling storage. I keep the drone on "silent" mode tho, I grew tired of listening to that voice very quickly.

The drone's stamina mod is fairly useful if you like being on foot a lot. It's not a mega effect but I definitely notice a difference re: running long distances or other stuff, if I don't use it.

They've improved the drone's AI so it doesn't get in your way as much - if you're moving around. If you're doing something like whacking a giant field of farmplots, or building large or repairing a huge wall, it might occasionally. :P I tell it to stay put if doing stuff like that.

It also has a tendency to always immediately try to get "behind" you, meaning sometimes I end up doing a circle dance with it while trying to click on it to access its inventory. I have to full-stop a few seconds and let the drone settle before turning chr to face it.

Caveat: I think people still can "lose" the drone, even if it's more rare, and imo it's more likely to happen if it's out while you're driving a vehicle, because of speed of travel. I have yet to ever "lose" one myself, but ... I don't drive much.

Anyway - never used the turret thingies for more than 1 minute so no clue.

OP: Drones can almost keep up with a motorcycle on normal speed. The higher your robotics skill the sooner you can start bringing both kinds of turrets with you on missions. Just have the drone stay behind while you clear, then go back for it when it's time to haul. The only drawback is when they bug out, it can corrupt your save. That might have changed with the extra saves in v 1.0? They work well on horde nights before you get base turrets too.

Nachoboi: Yes each mod increases damage for both robotic turret types.

I mainly use intelligence for the faster less time and material crafting in both forge and chem.

Ya, I like the drones for inventory space.
Tangentially related, I didn't like the default Stun Baton in Int builds so I made some modifications that make it more fun (imo)

A permanent storage crate that follows me around? Yes please. Just put it in silent mode.

I'm sure someone else said it already but the turrets are really powerful. I haven't used them in awhile, but they did an awesome job of taking out large groups of zombies.
I think the ammo might be more expensive to make now, but they are very effective.

I like using the turrets in large POI's, particularly the skyscrapers. You can plunk one down when a large horde is approaching and watch the fun. They're great for crowd control. The drone makes a great companion when wandering the wasteland or other biomes. It warns you of approaching enemies, can provide lighting and healing, and carries cargo.

100% worth it
