Fists are still the late game king, but everything is "viable" these days unless you are playing on Insane.
I have no opinion on guns... none of them in 7dtd really feel that satisfying to use... I usually end up with shotties and machine guns.
At least in end game builds. From m60, auto shot over clubs to stealth builds with crossbow and smg, everything works very good.
For early game it's most likely stun batton and pistol or ak47.
Late game, stun baton with top mods is probably the most reliable and safest.
Fists are the most fun.
Early game, fists are very weak if you play on the higher difficulties.
Early game, I would say the stone sledgehammer dominates. By the time I can get that 3rd perk point into sledgehammers, which doesn't take long, I can kick a$$, even on insane. Stone sledge is an awesome early game weapon.
I can't decide on ranged, they are all awesome. I'm loving the sniper rifle with perception tree right now. It's very ammo efficient because it hits really hard.
Purple sniper rifle plus the commando gear👍👍
The best mid-range obviously is the autoshotgun, it can easily deal/one shot almost everything, even doing some overkill and blowing up blocks behind the zombies, all that while holding 32 shells
The best long range would be the M60, perfect combination of high capacity and high damage with the thriling bonus of just holding the trigger down and cutting down through the zombies, tho you will quickly go through your ammo and durability doing that
honorable mentions:
- The Machete have very high damage potential agains single targets, even one shoting most zombies in the late game, but it doesnt do well aainst large amounts of zombies
- Desert vulture is basically the sniper rifle, but in pistol format, very High damage, very abundant ammo at later game stages
- SMG you basically have infinite ammo, 9mm is the most abundant ammo you will find around there, tho the durability is a downer
- Bow/Crosbow have some insave damage multipliers when in stealth, but they lack in supression against hordes
Early game melee i would say its between either the combat knife, the bone knife and the stone axe, even tho they don't do much damage, they all attack very fast and have relatively low stamina usage, the knifes with an upperhand because of better damage multipliers and the chance of bleeding. An honorable mention to knuckle wraps as they have a decent stun odd, plus lower stamina usage compared to bats. My midgame option is an iron axe, best all arounder while being usefull when gathering
Most early game ranged options are just bad, its either the bow and arrow, or the pipe machinigun, none of the other pipe guns are worth it. I would recomend just skipping the early options and trying to get any mid game options instead, either a regular pistol, an AK, double barrel shotgun, etc.
