I've been playing since A6 or 7 and there has been so much stuff they have removed...put back in....removed again....changed....changed back to original....removed....etc
The building is the one thing has me still playing but you can only build so much before you move on to something else.
Shouldnt have to do that, PERIOD.
But you can, and it's not more work as to start a thread about it ;-)
Temperature was already too easy to overcome before so I haven't really missed it.
I would like temperature to become an issue though.
Here is my current map, spent 12 days in burnt forest then went north to wasteland, now Day 40. Its servicable, factoring biome lootstage penalty in too..... I dont see the pine forest as 'the place to be', a loss I guess for those who do. You can make nice maps without XML:

Edit: Sorry to say I did find some copy-pasting in 1.0, but anyways... The large cities offers plenty of variety.
I've noticed that if there is something that needs improved, they will improve it but for some reason decide to touch 2+ other features which either only needed a tweak or were perfectly fine, and end up reworking/removing them for the worse.
The whole element of survival in the game is non-existent. Past day 2 the only survival needs (food and water) become insanely trivial. Now with temperature gone there is even less there. I know that temperature was super easy to deal with before, but again some simple tweaks would of made the mechanic perfectly fine.
Skill trees have devolved into a "class" based system, which literally defeats the entire point of a sandbox. Want to use snipers and clubs? Too bad. Want to farm but speced into perception? Too bad. I miss when you got better at something by actually doing it, which had the side affect of making any strategy/build viable and accessible at any stage of the game. (I will admit though having to make 800 stone axes was dumb - crafting can be purely skill points lol). The skill trees should be split into categories based on what they help with (survival, combat, crafting, harvesting, etc.) instead of a "class". Also I don't see a point in classes when certain skills are necessary for everyone.
I do like how POIs are all very unique and hand-crafted, but my god how they force you to take a predetermined path is an absolute snoozefest. Don't even get me started on spawn/alert triggers in POIs (literally the worst mechanic in the current game, and makes stealth garbage).
Traders are a very good mechanic and I don't mind the quests. Just wish the tiers were game-stage or day based and not based on how many you have done.
Really I just want to not be forced into certain playstyles, which if you try to avoid are actively punished for. I want to play an open-world sandbox survival not a min-max RPG class builder.
Agreed. The game has turned into a arcade game for consoles then a proper survival game. As soon as i tested 1.0 i imminently dropped it as a old time player. And i've owned it also around alpha 16, if not earlier where the builds were "Wonky structures." and square terrain.
Alpha 21 was beast, for what it had. Not too sure how they've curb stomped themselves in the mouth by ruining the game entirely and release it to 1.0. Unsure why people like it either. Its soulless. And it makes sense when they are asking 40 bucks for less content.
Edit: And thats coming from someone that loved the game to bits, from playing modded to even vanilla. It just lost its touch and its a damn shame. No amount of current updates are going to fix it since its clear its meant to be a arcade game now.
I hope that TFP is gearing up to make the survival aspect much more apparent and a major focus of the gameplay; but given their track record, most likely it won't be.
